Surprisingly easy to read prose for a book written 130 years ago. Despite being noted inspiration for H. P. Lovecraft, I would not consider these stories especially "scary," though they do have a few potent eerie happenings that stay in your mind to ponder. There were aspects of each story that I enjoyed and found interesting. But modern standards it doesn't feel super standout and showstopping but I don't know enough about the history of the horror genre to understand what it broke ground in. Still I enjoyed my time with it. Its a quick read.

dark mysterious

A collection of short stories all surrounding about a play named, 'The King In Yellow'. All who see this play or read the screenplay have strange things happen to them. The longest, and arguably best story in the collection, is called 'The Repairer of Reputations', though all the other stories were also very good. For fans of cosmic horror/weird fiction.

This is a moody book written in the late 19th century by an interesting fellow. It established an oddly lurid and rich mythos surrounding the King in Yellow and its kingdom in Carcosa. The stories are fairly typical of late 19th century writing. He was a contemporary of Ambrose Bierce, whom we all know for “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge,” which was turned into a thought provoking Twilight Zone episode.

It is cool that he created this mythos, based upon the Victorian trope of reading a forbidden text that curses you with knowledge that makes you go mad … or does it?

The concepts carry over to present day horror pretty well.
