Thank God for Matthew Vines and for this book. He does a beautiful job of examining Scripture and holding it in high regard while also adding stories of himself and others. For those who are not interested in reading personal experience or just want the TL;DR, definitely check out The Reformation Project (which was started by Vines), but I do highly encourage you to read this book as well.

I'm conflicted. I really appreciated the approach Matthew Vines took to this, but I think this is far more suited for more conservative Christian (who are willing to open their minds) as a starting point. As not only a gay Christian myself but a sex-positive one, this didn't quite hit for me. I agreed with a lot of things Vines said, but some of his arguments didn't quite sit right with me. Overall I did really enjoy this and I think it's great for people in the church who are questioning what they've been taught, or for LGBT Christians/allies who want to be prepared when having these conversations!

This was everything I wanted and more. Absolutely fantastic breakdown of the reasons given for a non-affirming view on LGBTQ+ Christians and then showing how these points are either not present in the bible or can be interpreted differently. Written in a way that is easily understandable as well as deep and theological. I recommend everyone read this.

Overall I liked this book and thought it provided a good detailed and clear overview into the biblical passages many Christian’s currently believe talk about homosexuality. However I felt it was shallow in terms of how it talked about sexuality now, and seemed to operate on very black and white, binary identities. Towards the end the book talked about lgbt Christians as a whole but throughout the book only really addressed and applied itself to the life of cisgender gay people. I think the book would’ve provided a more helpful perspective if it acknowledged bisexuality and transgender identities alongside its discussion of what the bible means for gay Christians today.

Every Christian should read this book. Aside from being well written, it's a gracious invitation to consider an alternate interpretation and paradigm than what many of us have been taught (and one that continues to be propagated resulting in a lot of destruction).
