When dealing with stories centered around grief, the beginning is usually slow and miserable. I almost put this book down, but I'm really glad I hung in there until Part II, because when it gets good, it gets good. I was on the edge of my seat for the rest of the story.

The imagery and the language that the creatures use is a big high point of this story. Few horror novels actually spook me, but this one got my heart pumping in certain moments. I was creeped out and delightfully distressed throughout. Everything coming together felt like getting stitches removed: incredinly uncomfortable and uneasily cathartic. Really a great read.

Wow. This is the perfect mix of homages to the horror greats and a new voice for horror. If you like anything by Mike Flanagan (haunting of hill house) you’ll LOVE this book. It reminded me of all the best grief based horror (pet cemetery, hereditary, etc) It is streamlined and very masterfully written. I was hooked from page 1 until the end.

a painful read in the best way. this books is very sad and dark but also very beautiful, thoughtful and relatable in the way that thiago describes his feelings of grief.

this book continuously kicks you while you’re already down, it is relentless.

it’s an eerie horror, in the sense that you never really know what’s going on and as soon as you start to think that you do, it puts you back in your place of confusion.

highly recommend this if you’re sad and want to make yourself more sad.
