Guards! Guards!

Terry Pratchett

4.25 AVERAGE

I read his Discworld novels all out of order but it hardly matters. Anyway, as usual it was a fun read. I adore stories which involve gritty grimy characters who still aspire towards good despite not wanting to do so. Pratchett's descriptions are always such fun and I'm consistently smitten with Vetinari.

Reread. Sir Terry is a genius. That is all.
One misplaced hiccup and they were geography.

lady ramkin: this is my boyfriend vimes and this is vimes’ boyfriend vetinari. vimes is gay, but he’s straight for me, but he’s gay for vetinari, and vetinari is really gay for vimes, and i hate vetinari. it’s not that complicated.

Okay fine, everyone is correct and this IS in fact the best Discworld book (at least so far). I love Samuel Vimes so much??? It’s actually not healthy. And Lady Sybil Ramkin??? Hulking viking woman of my heart. Carrot, Colon, and Nobbs are all so funny and lovable. I don’t even have much to say about the book, because it’s all just incoherent gushing. There’s just this layer of charm that none of the other Discworld books have quite managed to reach.

And the swamp dragons are so cute and pathetic! I love them too.

An excellent work of art. I have literally zero complaints about this one. The cast of characters is the best one yet and I'm excited to see more of the City Watch as I move through the Discworld.
