DID NOT FINISH

I dnf'd this book after about 5 chapters, but briefly read the conversations between the MCs for another couple of chapters.

---

This book is the BIGGEST ick. I'm genuinely concerned for those of you who rated it above 3 stars.

The characters meet at 13 (F) and 18 (M), right away he calls her "sweet girl". We then skip two years later (15 and 20 roughly), he calls her "my love", "darling", "sweet girl", "baby", "little girl", and at one point says "She's only sixteen, and she already looks like a vixen." -- blank stare. I don't think I need to go on (but I will). He's CONSTANTLY mentioning her curves, roaming his gaze over her, looking down at her lips, calling her beautiful, pressing her against him, holding her waist, caressing her thigh and cheek, etc.

And the icing on the cake, the ickiest of all icks, the straight to jail card:

"Have you ever sucked dick, sweet girl?" -- keep in mind they're still 15 and 20.

Another one of my favourite lines (sarcasm):

“I’m sorry, Alanna. You’re right. I have been treating you the way I would others your age, but it’s undeserved and unwarranted. I won’t do it again, okay?” UNDESERVED? UNWARRANTED? To treat a 15 year old... like a 15 year old? When you're a whole ass 20 year old grown man.

He groomed/is grooming her. Don't argue with me.

I didn't waste enough of my time to find out whether they get together when she's 18... but I don't need to read it to know what's going to happen.

Send this man to jail!

Alanna and Silas- the beginning drew out a little for me. Both end up homeless at a young age and fall madly in love, 5 year age gap, she gets in an accident and gets amnesia and they loose each other for 5 years. Then when they reconnect she has no idea who he is but they way he worked for her and loved her was so sweet. There was a lot going on and a lot of similiarities between the two characters- both loose both parents at a young age, both super rich then end up homeless, both want to go to the same school and end up wanting the same type of job. So that could’ve been changed up. But a very buttersweet love story. I was so back and forth abo. Where his brother (her ex) Ryan stood. Hated his mom, Mona.

The whole love story between Silas and Alanna kept me going from envisioning them from Silas being homeless unfortunately to Alanna having to go through the similar aspects that Silas had to then their brief misunderstanding to then the five year time jump and also we got the introduction of Raven and how much I couldn’t stand Ryan I was so mad but I was so happy that Silas finally got the revenge he deserved the book made me cry but also pieced my heart back together

This was such a beautiful heartbreaking story; the absolute emotional turmoil BROKE me. 😩Not to fear, she made sure to put me back together. 🤍 When reading I can sometimes guess which way an author will take a book, but not this one. I was so unsure of what choices both Alanna and Silas were going to make. I am so glad it ended with a HEA because my heart would not have survived. 🥰 The trauma that both Alanna and Silas went through together and separate really helped when we see the growth later in the novel.
Starting with Raven and Ares book “The Wrong Bride” and knew I had to know the backstory with Silas and Alanna. Catharina Maura did NOT disappoint. ✨

DNF a little less than halfway through. The plot…where was it? Nothing is believable here. I got so much ICK reading this, unfortunately.

This. This gave me everything. All the angst I could I ever want. The slow burn, the love triangle, I loved it. Sometimes the writing was a bit redundant with a few of the words overly used but I loved the story so much, it didn’t matter to me.

Emotional Damage! That is all I can say about “Bittersweet Memories” by Catharina Maura. This book made me feel like I was on an emotional roller coaster while reading it. Silas had everything until his wicked stepmother took it all away. Alanna saw the good in Silas even when he did not see it or had a penny to his name. Loved this book.
