I guess this is part of a series. I read it in a collection of short stories so I didn't really get the whole picture. The characters are good.

Post apocalyptic, doom, gloom, and no redemptive value. Left me no interest in reading anything more by this author.

Read this book as a prequel to Enclave, the first one in the series.
SpoilerImagine spending like 14 years underground before people start dying! That's so scary! So cute how Robin and Austin had a connection though. I liked how it led into the first book, with all of the different positions and jobs. I wonder if we'll hear about Robin in Enclave?

If I was the mother
SpoilerI'd be just as angry with my husband for going out to see the sick people, but I wonder how she got sick? And how no one knew? They just seemed to accept it.

I don't understand how
Spoilerthey weren't told about the local intercom. It would've made all the difference!

Excited to see how it opens up the world of Enclave.

This was an extremely short introduction to the Razorland Universe, which blew me away! I immediately was sucked into the story and formed a connection to the narrator, Robin. By the end of the story, I wanted to know more: what was the biologic agent that forced the families into the underground bunkers, why did some people survive the exposure and others didn't, why was the surface so uninhabitable? Excellent beginning and I can't wait to get to the next book!

So this was my first attempt at anything by Ann Aguirre. I probably should have actually started with book 1 in this series, but I figured reading the novella couldn't hurt. It was a decent read and only like 18 or so pages. It was a nice back story to get things going for when I start Enclave. I may come back and change my review on this one once I see how well it ties into Enclave.

Pretty simplistic overview of how the end of the world began.

I really liked this one, but the ending was really rushed.

Also, quick question for those of you who have read it: was Robin a boy or a girl?

Nothing much to say because this is a short story showing how the Enclave got started with people moving underground. It just adds a little bit of detail to the world the author created.
