This wasn’t a bad book so much as I didn’t read the description properly. It’s very short (I did audio so I didn’t have a clue other than description) and it hints at so much interesting back story that it doesn’t cover. It’s just pining and making out. So I didn’t dislike it but I felt it wasted my time for all the really awesome books I could have listened to.
It took me a little while to get into this one. It just felt a little unfinished. I loved Luca as a character, but Ana gave me very much Anastasia Steele vibes and that put me off just a little. I don't think I'm going to read the next in the series. I think I'm going to wait before I can jump into another Penny Reid Series - something established with solid characters and an endearing plot.
I did love the use of Russian literature as a central theme in this novel though, it definitely provided a different perspective and may have even inspired by to try War and Peace again (previously, my thoughts on classic Russian Lit was that it was all over-barring, far too long, and characters too dramatic and plots too boring.)

I really like Penny Reid but I did not like this. The professor/student romance was a no go for me. Too many red flags
In second (or maybe third) read of this book.
This story is still quite compelling… the leather pants guy who turns out to be your handsome professor and makes you also fall in love with his MIND... Wow, yes. Compelling.
And the tension. THE TENSION… like a pressure cooker. *Sigh*
The audiobook has just been launched. Just finished it and it is amazing (and that’s from someone who is relatively new getting used to the audiobook world). Totally recommend it.

It feels wrong rating a Penny Reid book anything lower than 4 stars, but this one didn't really grab me.
It was still good though, and you should still read it.
Just, not her best.

Penny Reid has this knack for reeling me in with a great premise and building things up only for it to plateau at some point. Her men are kind of abrasive and possessive, which I really have to be in the mood for. It's part of the reason why I didn't continue the Neanderthal series.
I liked this one more than that one but brooding men only gets you so far. I didn't love it so I can't give it more than three stars. This is a pretty superficial book and I actually enjoyed it. At least 85% of it. It's a quick read and the banter is pretty good for the most part. Getting to the epilogue was abrupt even though it was longer than some of the other chapters. Something was missing about this. I didn't expect much substance so it's pretty much what I expected! Considering that I enjoyed most of this book, I'm still willing to give Penny Reid another chance. She's hit or miss.
