This book consists of fifteen short stories which are parodies of the style of detective writers that were well-known at the time (1929). Fortunately you don't have to be familiar with the originals to enjoy these stories. This was a reread for me, but it's been so long since I've read the book, I don't recall much about it, so it was nice becoming reacquainted with the detective duo of Tommy and Tuppence Beresford.

As in most short story collections, I enjoyed some much more than others. With few exceptions, such as Sherlock Holmes and Christie's own Hercule Poirot, I didn't know anything about the detectives being parodied and whose methods Tommy and Tuppence imitated. The characters explain some of the aspects of those detectives so that's why you can still enjoy the stories even if you're unfamiliar with the source material. I think the premise of the book is very clever and I like the way all of the stories are connected even if they involve separate cases. I enjoyed seeing how much the love and admiration Tommy and Tuppence have for each other shows, even through their sometimes flippant banter. I prefer Poirot and Miss Marple, but am really glad I reread this book again and do have more of an appreciation for the Berefords.

I think I’m addicted to Agatha Christie’s books!
I love her writing style. And I love the mystery in all her cases. I decided that I’m going to buy all her books. No matter how many did she write, I want them all! 😍
