Ben and Liz. Bassist for Stage Dive and Anne’s little sister. One night in Vegas leads to an accidental pregnancy and Lizzie quitting school and being whisked away on tour with the entire gang.
He doesn’t do relationships. She’s fallen head over heels for him. They develop a friendship (?), which leads to a physical relationship but everything is ruined when Martha comes back...
I didn’t buy why he fell for Lizzie. I didn’t believe that Jimmy was wrong about the groupies. In fact, I really didn’t like Ben for most of the book.

I didn't find Ben as likeable as the other guys. I would have liked to see more development in his actions, as I felt like their coming together was mostly via words, which he'd said many times throughout.
That being said, I still really enjoyed Scott's writing and her general style overall, and found the book to be another page turner.

I've enjoyed each and every one of the books in Kylie Scott's Stage Dive series and Deep was no exception. I just didn't like the characters in this one as much as some of the previous pairings. Don't get me wrong, it was still a good book, it just didn't hit me quite as much as the first books in the series.
I liked Lizzy. I felt sorry for the situation she was in. Pregnancy after a one-night stand with a man who broke your heart? Brutal. The baby daddy behaving the way Ben did once he found out she was pregnant? Awful. She was young and inexperienced in a lot of ways. As the back-and-forth with Ben went on, I found myself wanting to hug her... and smack him.
I know exactly why I didn't enjoy this book as much as the others – because I just never really connected with Ben. I didn't find him that swoony, I spent a good half of the book wanting to smack sense into him, and when it was all said and done, I still didn't think he was all in. Something about the way he handled Lizzy's pregnancy and the back-and-forth that ensued after just rubbed me the wrong way. He did come around a bit at the end, but it was too little too late for me – and I never felt like he was all that invested or genuine. But, in all honesty, it might have been because I didn't connect with him that I called his feelings into question. Either way, I lacked the connection to the love interest that is so important to me while reading a book.
One thing I really did like about this book was that we got to see a lot of the previous couples in the series. I loved catching up with all of them and, really, they were a bright spot in an otherwise unremarkable (for me) book. Even without the connection to the characters, it was a funny and sexy read – even if it was also frustrating, but I know it's not one that will stick with me for long. I don't think there are any more books planned for this series, but if so, I'll be looking forward to them – and the hope that a check-in with Lizzy and Ben will prove me wrong.
Deep wasn't my favorite in the series, but I also see I'm pretty much in the minority. If you're a fan of the series, you should definitely still read this one. Who knows – you might love it as much as I wish I had!
