Maybe it's me, but I was disappointed in this one compared to the other books I've devoured of Black's. I struggled with this plot and protagonist, but I also feel like this could just be at right now at the time of reading this?

Holly Black, I knew I could trust you!! When this first came out there were so many mixed reviews so I put it off. I wish I hadn’t. I absolutely loved it! All the twists and turns kept me guessing and even when I KNEW how things would turn out, new information was revealed that made me second guess myself. I don’t know. Love these characters, loved this story, can’t wait to see where the series goes.

First of all, going into this I had no idea it was a stand alone. If I did, I don’t think I would have invested in it as much.

Overall, it kind of disappointed me. Or I just had really high expectations.

I’m more invested in Leigh Bardugo’s splash into adult fantasy than Holly Black’s unfortunately
