The characters annoyed me and you knew Elias was the bad guy the entire time. The thing that ruined it for me was trying to suspend reality enough to believe their teenage daughter thought Elias was her 21 year old boyfriend. He must have looked extremely young.

This was my first Kiersten Modglin book, I was expecting to be blown away by reviews I had seen for her books. This story kept my attention but it was predictable. There was only one part that surprised me, but I had the rest figured out for the majority of the book. I enjoyed the ending but overall the book was just okay.

We're introduced to a guy named Wes who has it all and is a good guy but has made some poor choices. His marriage to Addy is failing and he's temporarily staying at a motel just trying to make light of the path his life is going. Add an old high school classmate to the mix, Elias who invites Wes to stay at his place and everything starts to slowly unravel into a beautiful twisted hell ride of events.
Kiersten is great with her slow builds. I honestly can't stand them for psychological thrillers ( I love pedal to the metal!) but the way she writes has my heart pounding eagerly. This story imparticular is eerie and is told all from Wes's point of view. Also, I think I will pass on Twizzlers for a bit, I don't need to be reminded of the psycho.

If ever a book was filled with red flags that were ignored, this is it. Wow. I don’t know that people can actually be this blind or stupid so the level of believability wasn’t there for me. You can only ignore so many things. So, unfortunately, this wasn’t my favorite of Kierstens but still worth reading. Quick, page turner as always. Onto the next one for me!
This was my second KMod book and it was pretty good! I had predicted like 90% of what would happen so it was a little less exciting than the first of her books that I read, but it was still enjoyable. There was still a little twist at the end that I should have seen coming but didn't, so that was a nice little surprise at the end. The characters in this book are wholly unlikeable, so coupled with the fact that I was pretty sure I had this story all figured out, it was a little tough to really engage in the story from the start. Once it got going though, it was so cringeworthy and frustrating that I just needed the characters to catch up to what I had figured out. I'll definitely read more of her books because her writing style is easy to follow and still packs a punch.
3.5 but rounded down as it felt very slow for a good chunk of the book. The end really brought the score up to 3.5, but Kiersten Modglin has written many better books than this one imo.
