I absolutely did not like the main character! He acted so dumb to be an educated man. I was able to guess who was behind everything before it came up. I did like the very end!

It was okay. The writing is engaging. Easy read. But the plot was predictable and the end was cheesy.

Fast thriller with some predictability and some surprising twist. I typically like a strong woman main character but the guy pinning for the woman was a nice change. I was on the edge of my seat!

This one felt a bit predicable, but still enjoyed it.

1.5-2 stars. sorry in advance but this might get ranty bc wow did I dislike this.

first off, this did not read like a thriller at all. it read like a domestic drama, which is not what I signed up for. Elias was vaguely creepy but so much of the book was spent detailing long, repetitive, emotional conversations between Wes and his wife, Addie, which felt completely unnecessary. every conversation they had was exactly the same, with him asking her what he can do to improve, her telling him, and him being like “I just don’t know what to do!” even though she fully just told him what to do. overall so much of the book was dedicated to Wes whining over his marriage and fighting with his wife and daughter that it didn’t even feel like a thriller, it felt like diary entries from an oblivious asshole who didn’t try hard enough to be a good husband and father.

then there’s the matter of Wes himself, who was pathetic, oblivious, wishy washy and impossible to root for. I didn’t want him and Addie to get back together and I sort of even started to hope that Elias would kill him so I didn’t have to hear from him anymore. he made the dumbest decisions of all time, repeatedly, while acknowledging that he KNEW that they were dumb decisions. it started to seem like he was actively sabotaging himself just to forward the plot. he also was just generally a fucking asshole, like he’d spend a whole chapter crying about his wife and how much he loves her and then he’d turn around and say things like “she can get a taste of her own medicine” and “I was about to unleash the worst parts of myself on my wife.”
Spoiler AND THEN HE HAD THE AUDACITY TO ACCUSE HIS WIFE OF KISSING ANOTHER MAN the night after he let a woman kiss him and sit in his lap? AND THEN HE WENT AND SLEPT WITH ANOTHER WOMAN???????????????
fucking unbelievable.

if I was supposed to be surprised by the plot twist, I wasn’t. you can see it coming the moment it’s set up.

Spoiler also, Elias is allegedly a cybersecurity expert but his computer password was simple enough that Wes guessed it right away? fucking unlikely.

overall, this book was as boring as it was frustrating. do NOT recommend.

Wesley Gates is down on his luck. His wife has ordered him out of the house and he'll no longer be able to see his daughter. Scrounging for a place to live, Wesley can't resist an offer from his wife's old friend, but rooming with Elias may have been more than just a mistake, it may end up deadly.

For me, the main character in this book was insufferable, and it didn't help that the supporting cast were largely unlikable and shallow. The Roommate is pages and pages of Wesley Gates complaining about a situation he got himself into, despite all the warning signs and threats from those around him. Reading chapter after chapter of his pity party without any substantial plot lines running alongside it was tiresome. I haven't felt the urge to DNF a book as badly as this one for some time.

There's no substance to this novel—no jaw-dropping twist, well-paced storytelling, or satisfying conclusion. The whole book consists of back-and-forth conversations and then an abrupt and sudden ending where the unlikable main characters continue in their selfish and unlikable ways. With nothing positive to say, this was a miss for me.

This….was something. Wes’ marriage is falling apart, his teenage daughter wants nothing to do with him, and he’s been kicked out of his house. At the brink of a crash out, he stumbles upon a supposed high school classmate who he does not immediately recognize but later finds out his name is Elias. Tired of sleeping in motels, Wes eventually vents to Elias about his situation and Elias offers him one of his rooms in his apartment. Nothing could go wrong, RIGHTTTT? Yeah no.

The beginning had my attention for sure but shit started to get corny real fast. First off, the dialogue was aggravating to read. There was no need for prolonged scenes of Wes and Addy’s argument; we get it, Wes does not make time for you blah blah blah he’s always working blah blah blah. I felt like kept circling back to same shit over and over and over again. Don’t get me wrong, Addy’s feelings are completely valid in this situation, but something about her irks me SO. BAD. She kicked out Wes out of the house even though it’s under his name (I know she offered to leave but…girl), moved her mom in without consulting him, let her 14-year-old daughter talk to a guy WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING WHO HE IS AND WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE (it’s okay though because she said her daughter deserves to date!), and filing for divorce without consulting Wes AGAIN. I never wanted to fight someone so bad, my god. The real kicker is when she actually (you cannot make this up) allowed Elias to drug her husband so he can go to what…? Therapy. HO IS YOU COOL?

Wes is absolutely getting a stray too. This man had no backbone and constantly let his roommate walk all over him. What happened to setting boundaries??? There were several moments where Elias revealed himself to be a weirdo. I know men don’t have intuition but damn, get it tf together. Telling him about your work business (which is absolutely, in some way breaking HIPPAA), allowing him into your work place after work hours, giving him personal details about your failing marriage—like I’m sorry, you’re just stupid. The last straw should’ve been when he literally found his cologne and other personal shit in Elias’ room. At that point, you have the right to fight him. JUST STUPID!

Now, Elias. The corniest one amongst the three of them. Him constantly calling Wes his “best friend” made me cringe way too many times. You are grown…act like it. His master plan being that he wanted to get with Wes’ daughter (who is a minor kind you) so he decided to ruin Wes’ life almost made me close the book. It can’t get any cornier than this.

The book had potential. I think I would’ve found it far more interesting if Elias was obsessed with Wes instead. Wes and Addy’s relationship was the most annoying part of the story. I think if it wasn’t shown so much I would’ve definitely enjoyed the book more.
