meh ?

i honestly didn’t enjoy this book one bit and i want to cry. i hate to hate a book especially since the author wanted to bring some fluff and romance in this chaos that covid brought.

but i just couldn’t get into it.

When I read the blurb I thought it might be weird. The widow husband falling for his wife's ex. But I should've had more faith in Susan Hawke! It was cute and slow simmered kind of sweet. Just a little messy at the end, but all around goodness.

Loved it

Loved this book. Just what you need, a light, angst-free romance. I loved the characters and how well they fit together. Their journey to a HEA was done so well. Read this in one sitting, it was that good. Highly recommended

A cute romance that was over alarmingly quickly, there is such a fantastic slow-burn romance but the ending was incredibly rushed.

This is such a heartwarming story! A slow burn romance between a father and his daughter's biological dad.
Bradley locates Shane when it's revealed that he's not Maddie's biological father. It's a huge surprise to them both and especially how well they get along. To help Shane get to know Maddie, Bradley offers to allow him to move in with them where everyone becomes closer, feelings develop and love grows.
This is a perfect story for the two lonely men who need to have better connections in their lives. Bradley just has his daughter and work, along with extreme case of anxiety when it comes to their health and safety ever since his wife died. Shane has no real attachments apart from his mum and the old lady across the hall who spoils him with baked goods. Especially not to his very recent ex who he caught cheating but didn't even feel a sense of loss over the relationship. It's a surprising plot and is beautifully written by Susan Hawke. She is great at contemporary romances that include men in need of love and affection as well as entertaining characters that easily bring a smile to your face. This story's being Maddie, Audrey (Shane's mum) and Peaches (lady across the hall). There's a real sense of family straight away when it's just Bradley and Maddie, it's obvious how much he loves her, and once Shane moves in there is more light and laughter to be had.
Definitely a recommended read for me! I fell in love with the characters as soon as we meet them and it's a story that just pulled on my heart.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

I really liked this, but would have loved to see more of the day-to-day lives when the 3 of them are together...I'd love to see more of Shane becoming part of the family and building those bonds, even just mundane things. Showing instead of telling us his experiences of going to dance class, working during the day, dinner time, breakfast, etc.

Time of death 70%

I tried i really tried, but this is just not it.

It's me not the book.

The dialogue is weird, stilted and completely off. The MCs got no chemistry at all. The baby this, baby that came out of nowhere. They were trying too hard to be funny.

As much as i wanted fluff, this is not what i signed up for. The premise was good, the execution failed.

I am outta here.

What an absolute delight to read. This is such a beautiful, sweet feel good romance between Bradley and Shane who become best friends then lovers.
Their circumstances for meeting are very different from the norm and after becoming insta friends, their relationship grows over time into love.
There’s no angst, funny moments, tender moments and some wonderful side characters which all make for a delightful and engaging read. I read this in one sitting and had a smile on my face throughout the whole book!
