Perhaps this is a harsh review, but I did not enjoy reading this book. I love a good romance storyline, but the characters in this book felt incredibly one-dimensional. After 200+ pages, I still don't know much about any of them except that they loved each other and that everyone was apparently incredibly attractive. Maybe this just isn't my cup of tea, but I prefer when a romance book has a bit of edge to it. I want to know why the characters love each other. What interests do they share? What adversity have they faced? It seems to me like every character was incredibly privileged, even in their positions on the war front.
I could give this a lower score, but I'm giving it 2.25 stars because I do think that it was well written. Though I may not have enjoyed the content, Yarros kept me engaged in the story, and I felt like it had a fairly good pace. I was still invested in what happened to the characters despite not caring about them individually. I'll echo other reviewers in that I found that the historical flashbacks were generally more engaging than the present day.
This is a great book for someone into traditional romance novels. I've just decided that that person isn't me.

4.5 stars. Made my cry. Blew my mind. Damn Rebecca Yarros and your skilled writing.
The Things We Leave Unfinished had me gripped from the very start, and I cried - a lot. It’s easily one of the best books I’ve read this year. The romance is so beautiful and emotional, and Noah? Definitely in the top five Book Boyfriends category. The story was heart-wrenching in the best way, and I just can’t stop thinking about it. I know I’ll be recommending this one for a long time.
Whilst I love the Empyrean Series and that it brought me to Rebecca, I was incredibly timid to start a book from her that wasn’t the same genre. No one can write it all, right? Wrong. Rebecca. Wow. That was the absolute gut wrenching sob I didn’t know I needed. The plot. The twists. The whole dang thing. Sheeesshhh. This has me in every feel humanly possible. Read it.
I’ve know I loved Rebecca’s work before but I think I’ll read everything she puts out without even reading the bio first.

I have no words. What a book! I usually can tell what the out come might be half way through reading. But this book it completely blindsided me out of the left field. I did not see that coming one bit and let me tell you I cried so hard. Wow what a beautifully written story!
4.5 ⭐️
I truly enjoyed this book. I didn’t see the twist until it was unraveling. The love stories in this book were so well written. Sibling love, parental love and partner love. I am a fan!!
