Tense and dark as promised, Heidicker writes an animal story of danger and survival that's gripping from the beginning. Minus some truly uninspired choices in the middle and storylines that converge perhaps too early, Scary Stories is a spooky, captivating middle-grade fox book that doesn't overstay or overexplain. A good read for those that appreciate the harrowing life of wild animals.
Started off slowly, but picked up speed for me about 1/3 of the way in. Strong writing by a storyteller who doesn’t pitch low for its middle grade readers. Clever way that the tales intermingle throughout. I liked it well enough, but I have to say there are stronger fantasy books just waiting to be found in the library.
Die Lebensgeschichte dieser zwei Füchse ist wirklich sehr nervenaufreibend und düster.
I am not a fan of scary stories AT ALL. What allowed me to read this book was that it literarily is full of scary stories for young foxes, not humans. But to be honest, there were many times when I was anxious reading it. Readers are taken on an adventure and even though it is fictional it also teachers them about foxes. I learned where they live, how they learn, what they eat, how they get their food, how they find a mate and more. I love how the author wrote a fictional account while sticking with the facts about foxes. I've never read anything quiet like this book.

An awesome collection of horror short stories. Some of the ones toward the end of the book really surprised me for the age group, but all handled incredibly well. I would've eaten this up if I read it as a kid.
About Uly and Mia lose their litters and get lost, they find each other and help each other through some horrible stuff that a young fox or human shouldn't read.
I enjoyed the book but remember, try not to read it before bed.
This book is not advised for kids who are scared of blood, torn limbs, death and monsters at night. For anyone don't read it before bed.

Spoiler
There was death and the main characters almost died. Beatrix Potter, based on the real one who wrote Peter Rabbit and such tried to eat Mia. Uly's dad the most sexist dad ever tried to kill Uly because he had a shrived paw. And Uly had to deal with sisters telling him the scariest things lead by the oldest the only one that wanted him dead, which she died. A herb called "Yellow" made foxes crazy and was contagious so Mia had to leave her siblings behind and run away with her mother. And so many other events in the book. This book is not advised for kids who are scared of blood, torn limbs, death and monsters at night. For anyone don't read it before bed.
Exactly what the title says. Great illustrations to go with the scary stories, too.
