4.5 Landon and Slay stars

I love enemies to lovers romance, sincerely and unabashedly. But I can admit a lot of times it can get cliche or predictable. When an author can elevate the simple trope into something much richer and nuanced, it becomes a story that stays with you. This is one of the latter.

Landon and Shay have hated each other’s guts for a long time, but they can’t figure out why. He thinks she’s too perfect, too happy. She thinks he’s a jerk. Neither is wrong, but there is so much more to both of them. You meet these characters in Eleanor and Grey, but here you see their true complexity. Landon especially just broke my heart and I wanted to just give him a hug. Them going from hate to friendship to more is paved with demons and heartache, but it’s a journey you can’t help but fall in love with.

But it’s not over yet. There’s more demons to fight and in spite of what we would like to believe, love alone is not enough. Some things you have do for and by yourself. And that’s the note the book ends on.

this was such a refreshing romance, landon and shay’s story got a hold on me i never imagined possible!

i’m just so in love with their chemistry, the whole enemies to lovers, bad boy and good girl but also, damaged people who are just trying their best to survive each day! this book was an eye opener and the author dealt perfectly with mental health issues and family problems, it felt real.

and last, but not least, meeting greyson and eleanor for the “first time” was so nice, grey is such a nice person and i relate so bad with eleanor, they will forever be in my heart

“Thank you, Landon,” she whispered. “Always,” I replied. I think I meant that, too. I think I meant always.

-

“Landon,” she whispered, her eyes closed as her forehead rested against mine. I loved that. I loved when she said my name. Not Satan. Not asshole. But Landon. I loved when those two syllables rolled off her tongue. It made me feel seen. I didn’t know the last time someone had been able to see me so clearly.

-

She now knew the parts of me I’d kept hidden for so long, and still… She stayed. That night, I fell asleep with her in my arms, and I knew there was no part of me that deserved her. But still. She stayed.
