Makes a change for me to pick up a random book, find it’s part of a series and it’s the first, it’s normally further into the series. This started off quite promising, I liked the idea behind the crimes seemingly unconnected but with kind of a link 8 years apart. And when King and Maxwell come together you can see the makings of a good team. However as the plot progresses it becomes quite complicated and unbelievable and the ending didn’t work for me. That said, if I came across any others from the series I would probably give it a go.

Enjoyable. Pieces fell into place a little too easily*, but it was a good mystery with lots of action.

*ETA: I just realized the copy I was listening to was abridged. *facepalm* I cannot stand abridged books, but it appears that through my library and the digital library system for Tennessee, abridged is the only kind of audiobook available for many in this series. I’ll probably keep listening (as I’ve been a Baldacci fan since high school), but I’ll be a bit saddened by every abridged copy.

King and Maxwell # 1

I haven't read Baldacci, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. The story was interesting at the beginning, but as it developed and reached its conclusion, I found it to be too far fetched and complicated. I have a hard time with plot lines like that. I'll give Baldacci another try, but not convinced I'll love him like so many others do.

Baldacci comes through with great characters in this first book about Sean King & Michelle Maxwell. I love his writing and the unexpected turns in the plot.

Awesome characters in king and Maxwell. Plot was pretty good.

Great series. Quick read and entertaining.

I was excited to find a Baldacci series I haven’t read yet. This is a good one.

Two entire pages describing the female secret service agent's body told me all I need to know about the author's point of view and who the book is written for. I choose to spend my time on works that don't integrate, excuse, or condone casual sexism, racism, and other forms of patriarchal/capitalist oppression. But that's just me.

Even though I figured out part of the mystery early on, I enjoyed this book a lot and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
