The story begins with a person called Vysogota finding an injured person in the forest. The injured person is in fact, Ciri and she is very close to death. Vysogota takes her to his home which is untraceable and prays he can help Ciri recover. After days of caring for Ciri, she slowly recovers. She wants to leave his place immediately because she has a bounty hunter tracking her. Vysogota guarantees that there is no possibility that they can be found. He tells Ciri to heal first then to venture out. So the two get to know eachother and exchange stories. Vysogota explains who he is and why he is in isolation. Ciri explains what happened to her since the ending of Baptism of Fire. This is the main story for about 45 percent of the novel while they do chores and reflect.
Another frequent storyline regards Geralt and his companions including a vampire, an archer, a poet, and a traitor swordsman as they aim to track the people that may know where Ciri is. That storyline was brilliant.
As I am reading this series I realize the real monsters are just politics, corruption, warring nations and all people involved. Geralt, who doesn't question good or evil as long as he was paid for what he was doing is changing his outlook on the world. His number one objective is to find Ciri and will do all in his power to do that.
All in all, this book was very good. It was slow at times because of the needless information about what happen a few hundred years before Geralt and Ciri. But I read through that just fine. It does take from the main story but not by much. Again, I am giving this book five stars out of five stars.

Absolutely fantastic book! Every plot was intriguing, Ciri’s and Yennefer’s the most. I can’t wait to read what happens next :)

She got dark! I really wish I could just forget about all mentions of sexuality in these books because it’s always right on the edge of being heinous. Ciri’s story in this book was so dark and violent and messed up and it was so good! Geralt’s part was kind of boring, and Yennefer felt kind of tossed in. The score raised so much from
the Ciri portions. I also don’t know what caused the author to jump around in the timeline so much. He has some weird obsession with jumping ahead in the story and then having some character recount what happened in the meantime. I feel like this did throw a lot of curveballs in this one - quite disorienting. But yeah, this is a good book if you wanna watch a teen girl get absolutely wrecked but then rise above while her adoptive parents flail about trying to find her with little success.
