The story opens with a young boy discovering a body in his kitchen. The rest of the book is simply the events leading up to the opening scene. I guess there's a bit of story to determine which of the female characters you will meet is dead but other than that there really isn't a story.

This book feels very much like an 80s/90s horror flick, and the main character doesn’t let you forget that with her constant knowledge about them. It’s fun, but almost too drawn out with references or explanations of 80s/90s things/movies.
It feels like the world-building of the book is reliant and rooted in the author not having any faith that the reader is knowledgeable/capable of knowing 80s/90s pop culture, and instead tries to choke you out with a reference every other paragraph.
This appears to be the author’s first book, and while the above caused my low review, I think I’d read her next work as I can see potential in her continued growth and am rooting for her.
