I love the action scenes, the emotional turmoil, the fight for survival. I am not a fan of the long, drawn out technical explanations, especially concerning farm life. As the series progresses, I find that some books are better quality than others. But it kept me on the edge and waiting to get my hands on the next book.

revisiting this book as an adult is.........an experience. the jingoism is a lot, as well as the claims of ellie to belong to the country around her, and the overall shock of the characters at the horror of invasion despite profiting from the last invasion of this continent. but still, i'm obsessed with the teen romances that take place amongst all the crisis, and with robyn's character.
