This was a cute book. I liked that Brendon was the hopeless romantic. The characters were good, and I thought Brendon and Annie were adorable.

I really really enjoyed this book! Brendon might be in my top five favorite book boyfriends ever and Annie reminded me so much of my best friend. The main thing keeping me from rating it 5/5 are some of the dialogue/references - Iā€™m just not a huge fan of explicit pop culture references in books bc I feel like it dates them quickly, and some of the dialogue was very millennial. Otherwise, very sweet and a pretty light read.

Also a friendly reminder that bisexual people in heteronormative relationships are still queer!!!!

Decent romcom book, partially reads like fanfiction. Really enjoyed the mmc & callbacks to previous book.

I only read this book to continue the Written in the stars series. It was an sweet read but not one I would have picked up on my own, I never read straight romance.
I could relate to some of the struggle Annie was facing as someone living abroad far from my friends and family but she takes it a little too far.
I could not understand her once it was clear that everything she wanted was right here in Seattle and London had nothing for her. I don't get why she took so long to decide so the end was really long.
At the same time the very end felt rushed and I don't understand why she waited 3 whole days in the same city before seeing him! And don't talk to me about the epilogue. You took her to Disneyland to propose? And she sounded not so excited about it. After getting to know her throughout the book I would have expected a proposal in Greece but not at Disneyland, that does not sound like Annie.

Some of the moment in the book felt icky to me, I liked that they explored how most romance movies are not ok, stalkerish and performative but I felt like they didn't go enough in depth about it. This is one of the major point of disagreement between Annie and Brendon and it's never really addressed. They just seem like total opposite and I don't get how they could really work together.

"When Annie stepped into a room, everything else fell away. Touching Annie, kissing her, her laugh alone, made his heart skip several beats like heā€™d downed a red-eye coffee. Under that was an overwhelming sense of rightness. When his heartbeat returned to normal, she was still the only person he wanted, and heā€™d have given anything to be that person for her.
Perhaps it wasnā€™t love, but it was headed in that direction. Or, it could."

ā‹† āŽ ā˜…Ā° ā€ āž· 3 steamy
ā€œThe way I see it, you canā€™t rush something you want to last forever.ā€

What I really ended up loving about this book was first that Darcyā€™s reaction to her brother and best friend exploring a relationship. She realized it didnā€™t have anything to do with her and was just happy for the both of them. I believed more in the romance, however, I have the same problem with this book as the first one. I wanted Bellefleur to show me more about them actually falling in love. I heard about how Annie Kyriakos laughed around Brendon Lowell a lot, but we werenā€™t shown it.

My one big problem with this book was Annie whole ā€he could change his mindā€. It didnā€™t sit well with me for a couple of reasons.
  1. Itā€™s being overdrawn. Itā€™s really the thing she keeps going back to that didnā€™t have any real substance as to why she thought that. At least on in relation to Brendon (just former relationships).
  2. Her reason ā€this is moving too fastā€ would have been more accurate and believable, but she only uses it towards the end of the book when she actually makes a decision so Iā€™m technically not counting this one as used for her being scared.
  3. With these two it was more likely that Annie would change her mind in comparison to Brendon! Brendon has been sure throughout the book what he wants, and she has really no real substance as why she thinks heā€™s going to move on!

I loved how Brendon explained that while he had a crush on Annie has a preteen, I was falling in love with adult Annie, not a version he had in his head as a kid. Also, Margot - Brendon friendship is superior! And Darcy! We love friends to call us on our bullshit!

Tropes/Themes:
  • Sisterā€™s best friend
  • Childhood friends to Lovers
  • Grand movie gestures
  • One bed
