As a character, I feel like Madeline was completely and afterthought. She came in on a whirlwind she wasn't discussed during the times that all of the children were missing, and she just pops up at the end after the ghost tries to harm her to say that she's better than she ever was in their opening up a hotel. And that is what takes the two stars off of this book for me because that character could have been written completely different and it could have been a little bit better actually it could have been a lot better. I'm not even going to sugarcoat it. I think that maybe this book was hastily written, I don't know. But I think that it's a good story that was not executed the best that it could have been. Had it have been a better execution I probably would have given it four

I really enjoyed this. Blocking trauma is definitely one way to handle it, and how this story unfolded was well paced and engaging.
Getting a gothic horror novel right is a challenge and Her Little Flowers does not rise up to it. The plot starts out interesting, but completely falls flat by the end.
Francine as the MC was not only annoying but unbelievable as a character. Everything she did annoyed me and just felt out of place. The romance she has comes across as forced and not organic at all.
Actually, that’s how I felt about the book in general: forced and uninspired.

It felt like I was reading Practical Magic
I wasn't sure what to expect and I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. I'm a sucker for haunted house stories and I thought this one was full of spooky, unsettling, and and mysterious ghosts and secrets. The family secrets and the tragedy was gut wrenching and it made me emotional at times. The dual timeline was well done and helped to understand the ending even more.

I received this as a Goodreads giveaway. About halfway through, I would have given this a lower rating. But the book really picked up and improved for me at the end. I loved the underlying storyline of what happened with the Thwaite family many years ago. As Francine starts to remember the tragedy that happened when she was a young child, finding the answers through her memories had me on the edge of my seat. I think all of the haunting, ghosts and witchcraft put me off a bit.
