2018 Reread: I still love this comic! It's so fun and the characters are great. Some favourite parts:
- Noh-varr's music choices
- also his dramatic entrance/exits
- the ART
- "Come with me if you want to be awesome"
- any time America punches someone
- the scarlet mom
- Billy's dramatic af creation of his new costume
- Kate
Since reading this in 2015 I've read most of the original Young Avengers run and parts of the new Hawkeye comics with Kate and all that context just made me love it even more.

I really wish there was a way to give half stars on here. I feel like I've been giving out a ton of four stars lately. But what I really want to do is give this and others three and a half stars and I feel like I'm cheating them if I only give them three stars. So four stars it is.
Anyways, about the actual book. I'm really liking the team so far. Also, there were some really well done spreads in this volume. Definitely continuing this one.

Characters: 8/10
The characters in Young Avengers are memorable and distinctive, with strong, unique personalities that stand out even in an ensemble cast. Protagonists like Loki, Wiccan, and Kate Bishop are multidimensional, bringing depth to their arcs while maintaining relatable motivations and flaws. Secondary characters, such as the parents and other adults, felt less developed, but this aligns with the youthful tone of the story. I found the character dynamics rich and engaging, making it easy to root for or be intrigued by them.

Atmosphere/Setting: 7/10
The setting is vibrant and visually dynamic, perfectly suited for a superhero comic. The mix of cosmic, urban, and magical elements creates a unique, immersive world that fits the youthful energy of the team. However, some of the transitions and settings felt rushed, leaving parts of the environment less vivid than they could have been. The energetic scenes enhanced the tone, though I think additional world-building would have made some moments even more immersive.

Writing Style: 9/10
Kieron Gillen’s writing is witty, sharp, and perfectly suited to the youthful tone of the series. Dialogue felt authentic and often humorous, while narration was tight and engaging. The balance between action and quieter character moments was well-handled, and the meta-narrative elements brought an extra layer of sophistication. The style is distinctive and made me eager to explore more of Gillen’s work, even outside this genre.

Plot: 7/10
The plot was engaging but leaned heavily on style over substance, as the title suggests. While the pacing was mostly effective, a few segments felt more like setup than payoff, leaving certain storylines incomplete. Twists and reveals were exciting, though some plot points were predictable. Despite this, I remained curious and invested in the larger arc.

Intrigue: 8/10
Young Avengers captured my attention with its boldness and vibrant character interactions. The opening chapters were particularly compelling, though the momentum fluctuated slightly midway through. The mix of humor, drama, and action kept me engaged, and the sense of unpredictability made the experience exciting.

Logic/Relationships: 8/10
The relationships between characters were a highlight, particularly the romantic and platonic dynamics among the team members. These interactions felt authentic and contributed significantly to the emotional core of the story. While the world-building was adequate, some aspects of the magical and cosmic rules were hazy. Even so, this didn’t detract heavily from my enjoyment of the narrative.

Enjoyment: 9/10
Young Avengers is an entertaining and fresh take on the superhero genre. The combination of humor, emotional depth, and visually dynamic storytelling made it a joy to read. Despite minor flaws in pacing and world-building, I found the overall experience engaging and finished the volume eager for more.
