I loved this volume of Young Avengers. Kid Loki is cunning and funny and blends well with the young superheroes. I have a soft spot for Billy, who has an interesting story and strong powers.
I really like this arc.

Style > Substance is the first volume in Kieron Gillen's Young Avengers. After hearing so much good about this comic, I went in with pretty high expectations. While I don't think they were met, I can see why people get so excited about this title. Young Avengers features lovable characters, snappy dialogue, and dynamic artwork. The storyline, which is basically focused on bringing the team together, can feel a little contrived at times, but it does end up bringing us to some interesting places. It's impossible not to fall in love with kid Loki, a lovable trickster with hidden vulnerabilities, and I quite liked getting to know some of the new (to me) characters.
I will be checking out volume two of Young Avengers in the future.

Kevin Fiege give me Young Avengers or I will rIoT!!!
The art is excellent. Somehow I didn't realize that this was by the same team as The Wicked + The Divine, so I wasn't prepared for characters to appear in strange places with no explanation (Hawkeye and Marvel Boy?), have strong convictions and then completely abandon them at whim, and for awesome visuals/set-ups to cover for ridiculous plot contrivances. It's pretty! Young Loki is charming! Everyone loves gay superheroes and America Chavez seems pretty amazing, but there's not a lot of heart in this.
