4.13 AVERAGE

All around good fun! Really enjoyed this but I HATE how Loki is drawn...

wait, Cassie died? this is what happens when I skip stuff

ehh. this was fun and diverse so I'm giving it 5 stars, but I'm starting to think Marvel comics in general are not really for me

probably one of the few people that doesn't love this as much, but i don't know somehow i love v1 better? i love the new characters, especially America (who doesn't) but the plot and the style doesn't really speak out to me for some reason. also Tommy is still barely in here who do I have to pay for him to get major actions ugh

I'm very new to comic books/graphic novels, but a close friend of mine has been reading comics for years with her friends, and when I expressed to her a desire to finally start reading comics after enjoying Marvel films, she told me, "You HAVE to read Young Avengers."

I was not at ALL disappointed. It is a very fun comic with interesting characters, even for people who not that into graphic novels or, like me, are new to them. Plus this comic is amazing because for once it feels like it really attempts to connect with ME, since as a queer female nerd it can be really infuriating to love the scifi/superhero genre and yet have such little representation in it.

But this graphic novel is so good! Two of the leading characters are badass females who defy stereotypes - Kate "Hawkeye" Bishop and America Chavez. America Chavez has two moms, playfully dubbed the "Amerimoms". Two of the male leading characters, Billy Kaplan and Teddy Altman (Wiccan and Hulkling), are in a relationship together. Plus some of the adult Avengers make some cameos too! I really can't express how excited all this makes me!!

Plus there were a couple of times where I was really just in awe of the way the art too, it's just very visually stunning and creative too. I would've never thought to draw things in that way if I were writing the story but it really adds to it so that it's not just an interesting story but done really beautifully and uniquely too.

I can't wait to read the subsequent volumes and would definitely recommend this all the way! Please go out and read and support so that we can have more diversity in the mainstream scifi/superhero genre!

2018 Reread: I still love this comic! It's so fun and the characters are great. Some favourite parts:
- Noh-varr's music choices
- also his dramatic entrance/exits
- the ART
- "Come with me if you want to be awesome"
- any time America punches someone
- the scarlet mom
- Billy's dramatic af creation of his new costume
- Kate

Since reading this in 2015 I've read most of the original Young Avengers run and parts of the new Hawkeye comics with Kate and all that context just made me love it even more.

2015:
I LOVED THIS. That is all.

thats gay

Young Avengers is still one of the best titles coming out of Marvel at the moment but the Gillen's plots tend to be more convoluted the Heinberg's. You'll spend most of your time while reading this going "what the hell just happened?!" but the ride is fun.

The characters are the saving grace. They jump off the page and sass at you.

This was so much fun!! From the art to the dialogue to the story it was spectacular!

3.5 stars (rounded up for Kid!Loki)

Cute, funny, but slightly confusing. I think the confusion is my fault though, because I'm unfamiliar with some of the characters and their parents.

A little confusing at the beginning, but still an enjoyable enough comic. Really liked seeing Loki and Wiccan again and meeting the other characters I've never read about before. Great start to the Booktube Games!
