I think Lisa Taddeo is a good storyteller, as I did find the stories of these three women compelling. I just disagree that this book is about women's desire. This is a book that shows, pretty graphicly, the ways in which men's desire can be used to abuse women. Interesting but misleading.

Stunning writing and deeply troubling topics, very explicit in parts but not gratuitously so.  I think the author's relationship with her mother is a very interesting frame.  I feel much angrier after finishing it.

This book is about women's desires but it only features young, cis, white women. It's being "Hailed as “a dazzling achievement”' with "nearly a decade of reporting" and I'm like... huh? You spent nearly ten years following these women just to write in detail how "Lina" licked Cadberry Egg filling off her lover's penis? I'm just thinking of much great investigative journalism can be done in that amount of time and while I think it's important for there to be outlets that describe women's sexuality and desires, "Three Women" barely goes there. Considering the raving reviews for this book, I think there is better writing on women's desires on AO3.

I think my review might change to 4 stars after a book club discussion of this book. I think it’s a book that can trigger a thoughtful discussion about women, sex, and societal expectations.

Through her writing, Lisa Taddeo was able to articulate my emotions better than I ever could have. I highly recommend!
