I was worried that the conceit would begin to wear thin, but Nix delivers a plot that moves quickly and enough world development and unique details to satisfy and a few literary/cultural allusions to make things interesting for adults.
My only complaint is that there isn't enough time spent with the "real world" characters, especially Leaf. I realize that there are still 5 more books to go and so there's plenty of time for that, but hopefully there'll be a bit more in the next one.

This is such a sweet series, it's so nostalgic to me with the same feel as The Faraway Tree with that same magical adventure vibe. This one wasn't as good as the first one, it didn't feel like it had as much adventure to it and the writing often felt rushed. There is something so magical about this one, who wouldn't want to travel to the centre of the sun? I can't help but fly through these stories and want to read them even during the work week when I usually do not read at all.
The series was recommended by a friend, and it was charming enough that I got through the first book, but I just can't get into middle-grade fiction. So it's less about the quality of the book (which is good), but more that it just wasn't for me.
Book two in the Keys to the Kingdom series.
Arthur's hopes of being left to live his normal life are shattered only a few minutes after defeating Mister Monday. Grim Tuesday, holder of the second key, threatens Arthur and his family. Arthur must decide whether to give up his claim to the keys to the kingdom or to confront Grim Tuesday and try to take the second key.

I know this series is for younger people, but it seems to drag a bit.
I read this when I was really young and so don't remember much about it. I do remember reading it quickly - this was one of the first books that got me into reading.
