Tik Tok reccomended. I did enjoy the book and how it’s written, didn’t realise it was ten years old either!! Just a give or take it rlly for me, insta love isn’t my vibe
The writing was so wattpad like there were some lines that totally took me out of the story. Like the only way they really describe a woman as hot is by describing her "rack" and that got old real quick
I normally reach for angsty best-friends-to-lovers romances like Bilbo reaches for the One Ring, and I do truly like some of Wes’s chapters, but one side character calls another a "fucking ch—k" in an early scene and it was like my Libby app reached out and personally slapped me across my Asian face. To be fair, slurs were exchanged in that scene, but that one in particular gets glossed over and that side character becomes a favorite of one of the protagonists.
Also, I agree with a common complaint about the way women are written here. It feels like Bowen and Kennedy really leaned into the dudebro persona and it gets annoying pretty fast. Reading contemporary romance novels published before, like, 2019 is a little risky, I fear.

It's been 5 years (almost to the day) since I first read this one, and honestly, I thought everyone else was overhyping and thought I hadn't liked it that much. While it's still just a wee bit overhyped, I really enjoyed it and apparently just had a cranky memory

It was a good MM romance book, but it had a couple pieces that pulled me out of the story. One MMC has an eyebrow piercing but plays hockey competitively and is moving to an NHL team? Interesting. The other MMC, who has never had intercourse with another man, on his third time ever bottoming suddenly knows exactly what to do and just immediately goes to pound town with minimal preparation…. Okay …. The author(s) also consistently refer to the prostate as this magical thing that immediately triggered orgasms - it is referred to as a land with fairies and unicorns at one point - and this is simply not the case. Another time the author(s) state “I love having my own personal bad boy in bed with me” about the MMC with an eyebrow piercing …. Immediate cringe and second-hand embarrassment.
