I was shocked to see all of the low ratings on here. I read this book in a few hours, because I couldn't put it down. I was disappointed with the ending, but that doesn't mean I think it was a bad ending - it just didn't end how I would have liked it to. ;)

This is an example of why I did not find this book interesting: author writes in notes in back that "light" is cental to the books and notes three types of lights, and I can recall only one! If light was central then this should be memorable. Nothing in this book is memorable. I almost gave up and I should have.

When I saw this I had to have this book. Cuz I'm a unashamed fangirl of Stephen King.

“Hypnotically readable--I absolutely couldn’t put it down. The structure is brilliant, and I turned the pages with increasing dread. This book is terrific.” —Stephen King

Umm yeah..I didn't really like it. Lowell and Hannah have been married for years. When we first meet them they have a fight about something. I can't even remember what because it was over something that didn't stick out for me. I mean dang, couples argue. This one was bland fight central. Anyways, Hannah goes missing the next day. Lowell does the missing person report and then we go into both their memories on their marriage.
This could have been interesting. It may have been because the book was so short but these two characters would bore the hair off a dog. I just didn't connect to either of them. The kids in the story seemed like just passing thoughts.

I'm giving it 2 stars because I did finish it. I've not liked books that were popular before so it may surprise me. This one reminded me of one that I hated and now it's a flipping money making machine of a movie.

I received an arc copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Daylight Marriage is well written both technically and with a good narrative voice. The book seemed to be straining hard to demonstrate symbolism and this effort to be literary diminished the overall quality in some small way. The book was a high three star but didn't quite reach the fourth star in part because of an ending that did not completely hit the target.

I just didn't get it. So many unresolved things. None of the characters were likable and I felt no sympathy for their situation. Just meh. Would not recommend it.

Eh. This was okay, but not really my thing. It was kind of boring, to be perfectly honest. A boring husband and his shrew-ish wife have an argument. Wife goes missing. That's really it. We see that the wife is very naggy in flashbacks and that the husband is just, well, boring. When she goes missing, he doesn't seem to care all that much. There's no emotion from him about the whole thing. This book was just...meh.

This book was ok. I read it quickly and seeing both sides of events of a marriage was interesting. To me it seemed like Hannah thought she was settling for Lovell and she expected him to treat her like a princess. Lovell may have been to wrapped up in his work but he had the family to support. I wanted to reach into the book and slap Hannah at parts of the book.

This book was recommended in a "If you liked Gone Girl, you'll also like . . . ." guide. However, the similarities to Gone Girl are surface level at best. Like Gone Girl, the husband and wife are both fundamentally unlikable. However, they are both so passive that I couldn't stir up strong feelings about them at all. Without giving away any spoilers, the plot--to me--has several major gaps and were fueled on actions and coincidences that would be unlikely. On the positive side, it did hold my interest long enough to finish it. I would call it a subway or beach book--slightly entertaining but ultimately forgettable.
