Oh my god, this book is terrible. I can recap Little House episodes on my own. I wanted dirt and got writing I would have failed my freshman comp students for.

Terrible. Awful. Ugh. So much name-dropping! So many episode recaps!

I muscled through because Anna loaned it to me and I wanted to read something with the Kindle app on my shiny new iPad, but holy moly, this was wretched.

I've read Melissa Gilbert's book about her childhood and growing up on the set of "Little House on the Prairie". The show was a mainstay of my own childhood, watched in re-runs over and over again, and the books it was (loosely) based on were a heavy favorite of mine. I had not realized that Melissa Anderson, who portrayed Laura's older sister, Mary, in the show, had published her own memoir.

It was a pleasure to read. She seems down to earth in spite of a childhood spent in Hollywood, and I enjoyed hearing her give her perspective about popular episodes of the show. I haven't seen her in recent projects -- she took a break to focus on raising her children. I would certainly watch a show or movie if I knew she was acting in it.

The most boring auto biography I've ever read. I'm sure Melissa is a nice person and fine actress, but you don't get to know her at all. I barely skimmed this book.

Very disappointing. I love Little House, but this was little more than a retelling of some of the best episodes. Ummm... already seen them!

I would give this book a half star if I could. It was horrible and gives autobiographies a bad name. Having read Melissa Gilbert's memoir and Alison Angrim, I was looking forward to the third take on growing up in the Little House series. Melissa Sue Anderson really did not understand the point. This book did not mention her parents or life before she auditioned for the series. You don't know until the last page whether or not she had siblings. You have only a couple of pages on her
husband and kids. What she did instead is write about the plot of each episode she was in in detail. She does not tell what it was like to shoot the episodes or much about her co-stars. She tells us instead what Mary went through. I knew that from watching the episode and learned nothing new here. What a waste!

Since I'd read all of the other little house alums books, I figured that I would give Melissa Anderson's a try even though the reviews were pretty bad. What I've read review wise is pretty dead on with how the book is. Very bland, dry and boring. Melissa makes it sound like she was the best thing about little house and is almost just too perky about the whole experience. She summarizes a few shows from each season she was in and throws in the rare tidbit about filming here and there. The beginning of every chapter starts like a script and it is just bizarre. If you want little house fun, get Alison's book, more info, more fun and a much better read!
