This has to be the most beautiful published book I own.

There was a lot of alien stuff in this that I wasn't expecting. It ultimately left me wanting more, though. It was great to catch up with older characters I love and I can't wait for the new season to start next month!

Twin Peaks is special to me. But this was hit and miss. Although, when it does hit, you are home and the owls are most definitely not what they seem. I didn't care much about the origins of the town - there was too much of that. I wanted more of Audrey, of Truman, of Cooper and all the others.

The physical book itself is a dream, so much care and detail has gone into it.

Perhaps one of the weirdest things about Twin Peaks is how co-creator Mark Frost transmutes a television show that seems to actively defy categorisation and thrive on the inexplicable into by-the-numbers UFO conspiracy theory, harking all the way back to good ol’ Roswell. I was surprised that Agent Dale Cooper and the murder of Laura Palmer feature only briefly towards the end; this is an entire book about ‘reconstructing’ the (perceived) historical truth of Twin Peaks, as it were. With [b:Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier|34802642|Twin Peaks The Final Dossier|Mark Frost|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1494627878s/34802642.jpg|56014415] due in October, it will be fun to read how Frost incorporates the mind-bending weirdness of Twin Peaks: The Return into his X-Files-like mythology. Oh, and if you think this book is not linked to The Return: I was chuffed to pick up on how Wally Brando references Lewis & Clark in his Great Speech in episode 4. The Owls are definitely not they seem.

A little heavy on aliens, but the audio book is fantastic and is totally a must for Twin Peaks fans! Now I just need this book in gorgeous hardback form!

Great supplement to the new season. The middle third of the book gets a little in the weeds and barely reconnects to anything in the TV show, but the final through line of the book is enough to warrant reading it.

I'm not sure if it really makes sense to read it before seeing The Return though; reading it when I was a little over half way through helped connect more subtle did than I would have caught if I'd read this a few months back.

It's great if you want to fall deeper into twin peaks.

I loved The Secret History of Twin Peaks, written by Mark Frost who co-created the Twin Peaks television show. The audiobook was published by Macmillan Audio in 2016.
If you think this novel will be a summary of what happened in the timeline of the show you are so wrong. This is U.S. history as in Lewis and Clark, the 1947 UFO sighting, Nixon (of all people!) and so much more! All assembled by the Archivist. How are they connected?
If you know your U.S. history and what MUFON stands for, you'll really enjoy The Secret History of Twin Peaks!

Well heck if that doesn't set up some interesting things for the new season as well as being an excellent novel by itself.

Mark Frosh & David Lynch own this ENTIRE ass oh honey, OH ANGELO...

(in terms of the inconsistencies with the show and with stuff that's already happened on the Return, I definitely think more is happening than Frost being careless or retconning his show, especially when some of the most egregious rewritings (EVERYTHING about Big Ed, Norma, Nadine, and Hank's fucked up relationship history) change information from episodes that Frost himself wrote. Time will tell if this is a brilliant bait-and-switch or a clumsy, non-canon waste of time. And yes I have a theory about why information would be wrong here but so far all my 2017 Twin Peaks theories have been either totally off-mark or missing a vital piece of info so I'm just gonna go ahead and trust Mark 4 the time being.)

I also wanna actually take the time and praise Mark Frost for his ability to jump into his characters' voices. He's spent quite a bit of time with them & so most of them feel so unique and true. (It's incredibly easy to guess who The Archivist is just because of how well Frost replicates that character's diction.) Occasionally Hawk or Audrey would write something that didn't sound like them but girlfriend nailed it, mostly.
