Another five star listen from Audible?! One of my favourite, early sci-fi novels that I can remember reading combined with what is (to me) the best Prog Rock Opera ever. I will never tire of Jeff Wayne’s musical version and this production weaves the music into the story seamlessly and well. Highly recommended for fans of either the book or album. Caused me to search for, and find, my original vinyl.

The War of the Worlds had been on my TBR for ages but I’ve just never picked it up. I decided to listen to the musical drama when I saw audible had a new version out with two of my favourite actors. Let’s just say I’m pretty glad that I listened to this. I just loved the music, it gave the story some extra urgency and some parts it freaked me out, especially as I was listening to it on the dark mornings and nights on the way to and from work! The story was also really different. The only experience of ware of the world I have is the Tom Cruise movie and this is soooo different. I think in the future I will give the book a go but atm I’m classing this as reading the book.

Good but not a lot of addition on top of the rock opera, which is already stellar. And this is less of the music.

I grew up listening to Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War of the Worlds and have always considered it a masterpiece and this too, in my opinion, is worthy of being called a masterpiece.
It's best to keep in mind before beginning this that it is not a remake of the musical and is not a musical at all, rather it is an audio drama adaptation of the novel partnered with Jeff Wayne's magnificent score.
The music paired with the magnificent performances of the actors helps to further humanise the characters and add to the emotional experience of the listeners.
Michael Sheen was a magnificent choice for the Journalist, his performance is breathtaking and I can't recommend it enough.
