This second installment was even better than the first, “One Dark Window.” I cheered, I cried, I gasped! I guessed all the twists before they twisted, but it did not ruin my enjoyment of this adventure steeped in redemption and a quest for true, joyful freedom.

Unlike anything I’ve read.

Be wary. Be clever. Be good.
This duology will have my heart forever. The world, the magic, the way the story is told is just beautiful.

“I am the shepherd of the shadow. The phantom of fright. The demon in the daydream. The nightmare in the night.”

Special thanks to NetGalley and Orbit for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This really was more of a 4 star read, but it’s getting an extra .5 because of my love for Elm. Honestly, my favorite part of this entire series was seeing his and Ione’s relationship develop in this book. Elm gives such golden retriever vibes and he is SO sweet. I just adored watching him bring out the emotions in Ione who is supposed to not feel anything due to the maiden card. The storyline with Ravyn, Elspeth and The Nightmare was good, but I do think some of the pacing was a bit off. I just found myself more interested in Elm’s story and wanted to get back to him whenever I was reading about the others. I think this wraps up nicely! Definitely a series I recommend, even if it’s just for Elm.
