I liked the ending I guess. Was still hoping for more at the end.

This was EPIC! I really did not expect to love this as much as I did based off how I felt after reading the first book - which was good but definitely building up to it's fantastic sequel. The clever and unique magic system really had a place to shine in this book and the author left no stone unturned as she put the perfect little bow on this series.
Nothing in this book felt like an after-thought, everything was meticulously planned but still without leaving you guessing every twist and turn. There was so much to uncover on each page, it felt like digging for treasure and so rewarding by the end.
I loved the characters in this book and how we got to follow secondary characters a little more and watch their relationships and storylines blossom. It didn't feel like a pivot from the first book's main romance trope, but like an exciting new addition
(I feel like I actually liked Elm and Ione's romance than Elspeth and Ravyn's? But that's a personal opinion).
I would highly recommend this series just based off the sequel alone.

The plot was very clichéd and relied on a bunch of tropes and character stereotypes. It was also just very predictable—with the secondary romance, the villains, how the character arcs ended, how the final confrontation took place etc. I also found many of the plot holes were not addressed and how the card and forest spirit plot line was tied up didn't make sense.
