ouuggghhh pain. I didn't want this book to end... I like how the characters were more fleshed out in this one, and the plot was a lot more captivating. However, like the first book, I didn't really like how fast the romance develops. I wish there was a bit more of a slow-burn. Also, the ending wraps up a little too cleanly, which isn't necessarily a con but I wish it was a bit messier. Overall, really enjoyable and fun (all things considered)!
Sequels can be hard to nail especially when it’s following up your first ever book but my oh my that is exactly what Rachel Gillig did. This was “can’t eat, can’t sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence, World Series, kinda thing.”
The first book did such a great job with secondary character development that when this story picked up and a huge part of it was about them, it didn’t bother me at all. In fact I was pretty excited to watch their story unfold as well. The story still continued with the main characters in such a way that made you root for them and fall in love with them even more.
The plot again was mystical and magical. Romance hung in the air, as well as danger and determination. Even as you saw some of the things coming before they actually happened, once they did it truly came alive in this “I knew it!” Sort of moment that truly made you feel things. I was nervous, I was excited, I was wracked with anticipation. The feelings were almost tangible.
When I say I existed in this world from cover to cover of both books I mean it. I was a part of it. These were my friends, this was my story and when it ended I was sad to see them go but happy they didn’t become worn out and over done by making a ten book series out of it. The duology was the perfect amount for this and it could not have been executed any better.
I will be eagerly awaiting whatever Rachel Gillig may write next.

This is the most beautiful book I have ever read. There is a lot of talk of finding the reading high experienced from reading the hunger games for the first time and I have finally found that in this duology a decade later. I flew through this book though I REALLY did not want it to end. Rachel Gillig has easily become a top 3 author for me after reading (experiencing) this duology, this realm and its inhabitants. And I have never yearned to be somewhere that does not exist more. There will forever be a Blunder-sized hole in my heart. ❤️

I already didn’t love book one, but I was intrigued enough by its ending to want to pick up book two to see its resolution. That is a decision I now deeply regret. It pained me to read this.
