I was nervous going into this bc of all the mixed reviews— but I enjoyed it a lot!

I honestly didn’t mind the Elm and Ione focus, I found their characters very likeable! In fact until the last part of the book I found Ravyn to be quite boring 😭 so it was nice having the secondary couple to fall back on as well as Nightmare’s lore! His storyline was my fav and the most intriguing.

A few inconsistencies with the writing  but I noticed that with Knight and the Moth too :p Overall a fun, quick read if you’re looking for a romantasy that isn’t toooo heavy on the romance. Def a palette cleanser book for me.

The Nightmare has protected Elspeth in the darkness, taking her place and setting on his path to redemption. With Ravyn at his side, the Nightmare seeks out the final card. The perilous journey reveals more than the dark threats that lurk around them, but also the truth of The Shepherd King's barters, demise and legacy. Together they seek to forge a new future for Blunder, with a King worthy of the crown.

I didn’t love it as much as the first book which was a 5* read for me, I missed Elspeth and Rayvn as a lot of focus was on other characters.
But I loved the world and the ending, and I’m super pleased it was a duology and didn’t drag on for 5 books.

I didn’t think I was as invested in this book as I was, couldn’t put it down. Fast paced but loved all the foreshadowing and when the pieces all finally clicked together it was satisfying, surprising yet well woven so you didn’t see it until it was upon you. I really enjoyed the characters, relationships and learning more about the Nightmare.
