First have of the book was tons of fun. Second half dragged and felt like a completely different book.

Fantastic, thrilling read. Never read anything quite like this. Long as heck tho. Think I found this rec on IG. Told through many POVs- a mix between romance, thriller and a bit of mystery. Beautifully written too- almost poetic at times. The Uber wealthy/corrupt folks of India vs the poverty stricken vs the journalists.

I started out very interested but found by the end that the writing became disjointed and the anticipated character arcs never quite made it to fruition. Not a bad read, but for as long as it was I feel I was left unfulfilled.

Not my book

If you'd asked me if I would like a sprawling epic story of vice, betrayal, and criminal families, I'd have said "you mean like The Godfather? No thank you" but I guess I would have been wrong. Way too long though and needed editing.

The first half to two-thirds of the book was great. The second half seemed to jump around and I struggled to follow the plot, or the point. I understand it is meant to be the first in a series, but I think the author could have done a better job with the ending while still leaving things open for a sequel.
That said, her writing is fantastic and she pulls the reader into each character. I was sad each time the narrator changed but then enjoyed each section (until the ending, when she brings in a new character very close to the end, which feels to lose the point of the first 2/3s). I will probably read the sequel, if she writes one!

After finishing the book the only question I have is "What was the point of this book?"

First half really compelling, the makings of a masterpiece, the second half seemed thrown together. Wolf of Wall Street vibes, but not really clear of the character's motivations. Some scenes were really confusing. The end is a mishmash of misfortune.
