2.5 stars. Fairly predictable, and no real plot twists. The romantic aspect was lacking and inorganic. Regardless, I did like the author’s writing style and the characters, which is why it got an extra 1.5 star.

This is the third book in the truth series. We once again have the crime writer woman, and she is working on the backstory, of the report cards she found in her dad's basement after his death, that belonged to the kid who killed another kid then disappeared after he got out of juvie. i feel like the answer to this mystery is becoming super obvious as it goes on, but since the daughter or her fbi boyfriend aren't coming to the same conclusion as me, maybe i'm wrong. i guess i might find out in the next book. As to the main story in this book, nina, the crime writer's book editor, 's dad was convicted (& has since died) when she was a teen of a series of rapes and murders of local college women where he worked as a professor. now, after the death of her step mom, she finally looks into the case because of some new evidence, and has to see whether he actually committed these crimes or not. It was a little obvious, but not to the full extent of what we find out actually happened at the end. All in all, this is a good series, with a new old crime every book and good characters which reappear. I'm interested to read the next one!

So farfetched. I couldn't imagine this one ever happening the way it did. Also, the subplot became way too obvious. How does Reagan not know the connection already?

There was a great cast of creepy potential killers in this one- everyone had something to hide. I enjoyed the angle Stewart came at the case too- from a writer's perspective rather than starring a law enforcement officer.

I added a half a star just for this small paragraph:
The night was split by an ungodly scream.

Jesus God, Wes prayed, what is he doing to her?

He increased his speed, the screams echoing in his ears. When he reached the boat, he pulled himself up onto the narrow diving platform that ran across the back and lifted himself onto the deck.

Nina stood in the doorway to the cabin, wearing a short tight skirt and high heels, a gun in her right hand, and the microphone for the boat’s radio in the other. On the deck, Kyle Stillman sobbed and writhed, blood pouring from between his hands, which were held to his face.

“What took you so long?” she said without turning around.

Without waiting for a response, she pointed to the radio. “You know how to use one of these? I’m trying to call the Coast Guard . . . “

THAT is how I like my heroines.
