Bunnies meets The Wicker Man

The audiobook is excellent. There are background sounds, musical touches, and voice effects. Absolutely a must listen on audio!

"I'm not hurting people," Mimi pouts.
"I'm hurting boys."
Bria, to her credit, throws me a sideways glance and asks, "What are your pronouns again?"
"Uh..." My throat still feels raw from being choked within an inch of my life. "I'm cool with really anything. I'm fluid."

This part absolutely cracked me up. I really enjoyed this a lot more than i thought I would! As a nonbinary person it was so nice to read something from the point of view of another genderqueer person! Would’ve loved a bit more horror in it but I really loved the book as a whole. The ending has devastated me though,
Mars already lost their whole family and they couldn't just have a happier ending with Wyatt at the end? 😭

A wonderful book. At times I felt myself struggling to stay engaged. But I really enjoyed the ending. It had enough horror elements to be considered a horror book. But it was more scary/creepy I felt. And I was really happy that gender had nothing to do with the horror elements. I do hope to place this on my "to read again" pile and hopefully I'll catch more the next time.

Everyone’s always talking about creepy sentient fungi but now I only want creepy sentient bees and aspen trees.

This book is real good. I could not put it down and was audibly gasping towards the end. Fantastic characters, ✨immaculate✨vibes (it’s giving Midsommar), and honestly a lot scarier than most of the adult horror I read. This story will stick with me for a long time.

I do not read much YA horror anymore because most feel like they tone down where they actually want the story to go because of the age of the audience but this book didn’t feel restricted to the age group.

I went into this book knowing nothing except that I love Ryan's writing. Jumping in cold was a joy and a step that made me feel like I was completely at the same level of understanding as Mars. In reading, I found myself worried about Mars sanity, the reality of their world at Aspen, the motivations of the Honeys. I am in awe of the intricate world created in this summer camp, a world mired in long standing traditions and patriarchal values. In a place where the motto is understood to be "we protect our own", a small corner broke free to protect the new and vulnerable. I will happily recommend this to other people looking for a supernatural mystery unlike anything I've seen before.

5 stars for the beginning and the end. The middle, not so much. It was hard to maintain my interest but overall loved the story. The last 100 pages *chefs kiss*
