Although it seemingly has nothing to do with it, I felt this was a weirdly appropriate tie-in with the last book I finished ("Haru", by Flavia Company). Something about the satisfaction of work well done, of noticing people and buildings and stories, of finding meaning where others would only find strife and disgust. That's what I liked about this, even more than the actual stories.

Basically what it says on the tin - a biographical, chatty account of stories told to a podiatrist by her clientele who all live in one of the most notorious Berlin quarters from the former GDR. I don't have any specific affinity to our capital city, but even I have heard of this area as one of growing social unrest, the weird nostalgia for the former GDR aptly named "Ostalgie" ("eastalgia") and the rise of right-wing parties.
