A page-turning classic and Bradbury's love letter to books. The 50th anniversary edition has the afterword, coda, and an interview. These reveal Bradbury's brand of literature fundamentalism to be a more narrow conception of culture & art than I hold (and also some naive optimism for America). The pacing of the book is extremely fast and it works fine. Nothing overstays its welcome and the characters are alive. He gets poetic sometimes. It's storytelling, not realism.
I’m having such a difficult time understanding why this book is highly praised? I feel so let down because I really wanted to love this book just like everyone else.
Yes there is a message being told, but quite frankly the writing style makes it impossible to know what the message even is?!

This book couldve been a bit longer for me as i feel that at times it was a bit rushed. Overall i really liked the story and the possible messages behind it, especially in times like now where AI takes over a lot of functions that a book has, for example some people rather read an AI summary than the book and then they say theyve read the book. What i also loved about this book is how it is still a topic that is very present at the moment (with the book banning in the US), which does say a lot about how fucked up our world is. Is this my favorite dystopian novel? Not at all. Do i still like it and am i still glad that i read it and will i recommend it to people? Absolutely yes. I get why this is a classic.

The irony of me listening to this as an audiobook via my “seashell” headphones while sitting next to my husband on the couch while he watches tv in our “parlor”….
