The first time I read this book, I rated it two stars. This time I upped that by a star - but that isn't to say I'm terribly happy with this book. So far it marks the low-point in the series.

The author seems to have made a choice based on Geography - this is supposed to be the story of the characters who started the book in King's Landing. He's inconsistent even in this because to the best of my knowledge, neither Samwell Tarly, nor Arya Stark started this book in King's Landing. But what do I know, I'm just the reader.

The problem with this book is that it's 800 pages of people we really don't care about. Cersei is an incompetent fool, Tommen has no personality, Jaime spends the entire volume mourning his lost hand and talking about it on every single painful page, Brienne - who was awesome when on the quest with Jaime - is now reduced to annoying pissant, Sansa and Petyr were never very interesting in the first place . . .

Oh and the Greyjoys? How are they in a King's Landing book?

Martin lost his way in the writing and I can only hope that book 5 is better.

This was an amazing read. I thought the characters were awesome. However, I did miss certain POVs such as Jon and Tyrion. I thought Cersei made me feel something for her character other than dislike, she was more exposed and crazy as ever. I thought Jaime was awesome as well. I want him and Brienne. I also love the bitterness between Jaime and Cersei. I thought Arya was interesting to read in this book. I am surprised when
Spoiler she was blind
. Also, Sam and Gilly were awesome. I loved reading their story. I thought Sam was interesting, and engaging. This book was a little bit slower than the first 3 books, but there was a good amount of information covered for each character of this book that gave it an interesting yet different tone. I really loved that. I can't wait to see what happens next. A Dance with Dragons, here I come. Overall, a fantastic read.

About 15 Cersei chapters too many, but overall, I found it much more engaging than I did the last time I attempted to read through it. I may not have loved it the way I did the first three books in the series, but it did successfully rekindle my love for a series that had been all but dead to me for over two years. For that, I am thankful.
