I think that if you like the other books in the series you will like this one. It ties up the plot lines pretty well overall and there are some good moments. I hadn't read the previous books very recently so I think there were quite a few references to prior events that I missed.

I am going to miss this world so so much. While I know MWT has plans to move on to other stories if she wants to dip her toes back into this world I would be bare knuckle brawling to grab that book.

Pheris took me sometime to warm up to but by the end I was rooting for him. As before MWT has a talent for making you care for her characters and shows them growing as people that has me seated and turning pages like an extremely enthusiastic tax accountant - I want every detail! To see a character whose life is so obviously impacted by his disability thrive in this world felt really impactful - he can not do everything others can; he physically isn't able to but that has no bearing on his worth and while that does mean he has struggles, he can achieve a lot more than his family ever expected from him. The
training he receives from Relius and how capable Pheris is shown to be when he's given the opportunity, the care and allowed to feel trust - his love of math and the delight he took in it and that Relius and the Magus even got communicating to bring Pheris more complicated math - had my heart feeling so tender

I want to see more of
Eugenia and what the family dynamics for Gen, Irene and their new family would be like. I need to know how Hector and Eugenia get on. How are Gen and Irene as parents? What about Sophos and Helen? So many questions!

I'd also want to learn more about Costis and Kamet as they got so little mention despite having two books between them where they were main characters. I need to know they get a fulfilling life after all this.

Overall, this story feels complete but with so much potential to spin off into other stories and if it ends here for good I shan't be mad but by god if MWT comes out with a new book in this world it is over for my productivity until I devour it saturn eating his son style

A captivating ending to this series! The perspective being written by someone who is mute and has limited communication was VERY creative and well written. My only personal complaint was that I usually don’t enjoy reading about warfare and strategy etc. It particularly seemed to drag towards the ending and I stopped being able to follow it well, although I know that’s probably my own preference. I still appreciated the cleverness of the plot and the complexity of the characters.

On one hand, this was a wonderful series and has given me great pleasure through the years. But on the other... I feel like I missed a step? Like I skipped 100 pages near the end.

Four stars, because again, this series. But. I am confused and kind of bummed, to be completely honest.

Pheris..... Megan Whalen Turner is perfect, this series is a masterpiece. I don't care that I've already read it all, I'm buying the physical copies. The author just nails every character and shows how their upbringing and environment shapes their minds. Even the ones we're rooting for aren't perfect and do things they hate themselves for, because that's how they've always done things. Which leads to amazing character development, and all that without being on the nose.

The only reason I'm not giving this 5⭐ is because the stakes felt a little too high and oppressive at times, both for my taste and for the overall series.

You learn so much about Eugenides each time you see him through someone else's eyes. You have to figure him out again and again while Pheris and everyone around him try to keep up with Eugenides. This one's a heartbreaker at times, but so beautifully balanced in the trials and victories. If you want a book, or rather a series, where there are characters that are so much smarter than, this is for you. This book, the characters, the countries, the pantheons of gods, and the series as a whole are all so beautifully crafted.

I’m genuinely sad that this series is over. I highly recommend reading them for yourself. The author has created a mythology that feels far more vast and historical than what appears on the pages. The characters are rich and fun to watch over the course of the series.
