Another Taylor Adams book that did not disappoint! This one again took a fear of mine (I didn’t even know I had) and made it so much worse. I’m not sure how the author does it, but I was hooked the entire time. Ordered another book by this author after reading this!

James and Elle are on the roadtrip to start their new lives and pass through the Mojave desert. After rerouting due to a roadblock, their car dies in the middle of nowhere. With no cell phone service, a wandering man with a serious head injury, and now bullets aimed right at them, they have no where to go. A mile away, a sniper has this couple in his sights and is waiting for them to make any wrong move so he can put an end to their lives.
Told from the perspectives of James, Elle, and the mysterious sniper, I honestly expected more from this book. The description pulled me right in and I just thought it was going to be more suspenseful and heart-pumping than it ended up being. There was a serious lack of motivation for the sniper to be doing this, and more than a handful of words that I find derogatory that made this an “eh” read. Also the ending was lackluster…. This may be the first book of 2024 that I would not recommend.

Wow! I didn't want to put this book down. I read No Exit! also and that was a wild ride as well. There were a few problems though. He used a lot of metaphors that were sometimes a little distracting. The plot is pretty implausible and hard to believe that someone could get away with murdering so many people in that particular way.
I do like reading about a character who beats the odds, however.
