I now finally understand what people mean when they say a book literally altered their brain chemistry 😫 I really took my time with this book as I wanted to savour every single minute of it. I am in absolute awe of the writing. This story  was nothing short of incredible and heartbreaking!!!!

I GENUINELY CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVED THIS BOOK?!?!?!!? Blake McHayes you are definitely a keeper and the most thoughtful boyfriend I have ever read 🥹 this book was everything I hoped for and more

The Notebook of our generation 😭♾️⭐️
I honestly don't think my words can do this book justice. My copy is probably 90% annotations and 10% book at this point. It's one of those rare stories that feels like it was written just for me. Sometimes you read something and it just clicks with your soul... Laura has this amazing ability to describe emotions in a way that makes you feel like you're right there with the characters. I felt ALLLL the emotions reading this book, goosebumps, gasping, belly-laughing, and tears streaming down my face (have your tissues ready) There aren't enough ways to describe my love for Beverly and Blake. You're instantly drawn to them and quickly recognize they are inseparable. There's such softness and vulnerability between them. Oh God, my babies....... They are written with such depth, such intimacy, that they feel like people you know. People you love. People you miss when you close the book.
(I would give anything to have a dinner table conversation with Blake 😭)

"Lines existed for a reason. Proximity blurred them. Comfort made them easier to ignore." if that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about the vibe of this book...🤭

[plot]
'Beverly' follows Beverly, who's just a kid when her dad brings home Blake, a quiet, guarded boy with a tragic past. her family takes him in, and Beverly and Blake grow up side by side, trying (and failing) to keep their feelings in the "off-limits" box

[writing]
the writing is probably one of my favorite parts of the book. it feels like you're eavesdropping on someone's most private, unfiltered thoughts, and it's addictive

[characters]
- Beverly -
oh she's THAT girl 🙏🏼  the kind of fmc you want to be best friends with. the thing I love most about her is that she's so human. she's sweet and bold in that teenage-girl way that makes her so relatable. she doesn't always know what she wants or how to handle what she's feeling, but that just made her feel even more real

- Blake -
I could write a whole separate review just for this boy!!!! I swear, getting his POV made the book for me. he's the most caring, loving boy ever. but the way he wrestles with his feelings, trying not to hurt the people he loves, trying to do the "right" thing, it broke my heart over and over. every time I read his POV, I wanted to scream into a pillow and then go hug him. there's so much tenderness in his character. you can tell he's written by a woman

[side characters]
plsss they add so much personality to the story and bring some much-needed lightness and humor to the heavier moments! I swear they feel like real people you just want to hang out with. there were moments I was full-on laughing, especially when the group was all together!!

THIS WAS A MASTERPIECE. I had doubts about this book considering it was a whopping 680 pages, but I breezed through it in less than 24 hours. The beginning plot and characters had me hooked and I could not put this book down🥺🎀
