Fairly decent plot but extremely predictable. This was insta-lust mixed with second chance (which in my opinion, she caved too fast). There was some minor inconsistencies throughout the book and I'm hoping there's another round of editing to catch the rest of the typos.

Was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC! I was sucked in by the first page! I devoured this book so fast! I absolutely love Cammy & JP! The plot was plotting & the smut was smutting! I fell in love instantly with every single character in this book & I cannot wait to see who the next book is about!!

Enjoyable book what kept me hooked from beginning to end
Not a huge fan of the miscommunication being so drawn out but it could definitely be a plus for someone else

ARC

I’m new to Kenna King’s books, but boy did I enjoy this second chance romance. Since this is the first book I’ve ever read by Kenna, I know I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the previous ones, but I’m going to catch up. I’m invested in finding out what happened in the other couples’ lives. And because of this it was a bit difficult for me to get into it at first.

It didn’t take long though to fall in love with Cammy and JP. JP is back after one and a half year away from the game after an accident that cost him an injury, the team he was currently with, and most of all it cost him Cammy. He’s hell bent on getting her back, even though he is his own worst enemy when it’s a matter of doing things that are good for him. He always puts other people’s best interests first and his come last.

Cammy is still extremely hurt by what had happened with JP during their one night together. She doesn’t want to get closer to him again, but his pull is too strong too resist. Will she be able to overcome her fears and doubts?

Thank you @chasingbooks.pr and author @kennakingbooks for the opportunity to read this wonderful steamy, second chance romance. All opinions are my own.

This is my favorite hockey romance to date. I loved how clear JP’s intentions were about winning Cammy back and even though there was a little bit of miscommunication (my least fave conflict), it happened with good intentions, just the wrong execution lol
I loved how scenes of Cammy with her friends were included and just not brushed over. It made the story feel fuller and like there were more to the characters than just the love story. Cammy’s dad was a little intense but being best friends with her stepmother was such a fun dynamic. I had so much fun with this one, I’m kind of sad it ended!
Thank you to Chasing Books PR for the chance to read the ARC!

The miscommunication trope was working on this plot in the beginning. It add mystery to the story. However, at the end it was just annoying. Like you really couldn’t ask a question and hear him out. You were ready to give it all up on incorrect information.

The love story is great. The male lead is a friend someone can count one and so genuinely kind. It was easy to fall her him. But his flaw of never thinking he was enough and causes trouble cause him to not see his worth.

These two fell quick and hard, you knew it even when she was trying to play it off. A genuine second chance romance.

“I might not have all the answers, but I know one thing for sure: Cammy is my end game.”

Thank you to chasing books PR & the author for an ARC, in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was my first book by Kenna, and it definitely won’t be my last! I really enjoyed the close knit group of found family in this story, and can easily see so many more future books to come!

JP and Cami were so cute together, and man oh man was JP a man obsessed, he was down badddddd for Cami. The way he was willing to put everything including his hockey career on the line for her, was so sweet. And the fact that he always spoke to little endearments in French to her…. So swoony! The Zamboni scene… I will simply never recover, this was everything!!!

All my sports romance girlies add this one to the tbr

Tropes:
🏒Hockey Romance
🩵Second chance
🏒He speaks French to her
🩵Coaches daughter
🏒Found family
🩵Reformed bad boy

My fave quotes:

“That each puck I tossed to you meant as much to you as they did to me. Maybe there's more to us than you think there is,” he says, his eyes soft as he searches mine for some kind of answer.”

“Because I want every part of Cammy. Her rose petals and her thorns.”

“That each puck I tossed to you meant as much to you as they did to me. Maybe there's more to us than you think there is,” he says, his eyes soft as he searches mine for some kind of answer.”

“You’re the vision of my fantasies. I'll never forget how perfect you look tonight,” he murmurs, his voice deep yet gentle.

“Anytime. This is my favorite place on earth, and I get to be here, with you… well, there’s nowhere I’d rather be than on home ice with you.”

Miscommunication

I ate this one up!

We first meet Cammy in the Hawkeyes series, and I was so excited when I heard she was getting a book!

JP is our misunderstood, bad boy player, who has so much more to him than we initially thought!

The angst, tension and chemistry between these two is so good!

I did audiobook for this one and Maeve and Alex are phenomenal narrators! I feel like they really brought these characters to life and I could not stop listening!!!

I'm so excited for more to come in this series!

Match Penalty by Kenna King ✨️arc review✨️

Kenna King, the queen of spice of ice, has RETURNED to the ice hockey romance scene with Match Penalty, her first book in her new Rookie Hawkeyes Series.

For the bookish babes that have been here since Cocky Score (book 1 in The Hawekeyes Hockey Series) fear not for you will not be disappointed with this first book in Kenna Kings next generation sequel series. Match Penalty has all of Kenna King's classic book staples: the yearning, the tension, the uninterested FMC, the head over heels MMC, and of course...the SPICE. This book also contains some of our favorite characters/couples from the previous series, which was honestly so much fun. Of course, reading the OG cast of characters throughout the first 9 books was like SWOON, but reading about them and how far they have come gives this book a very nostalgic feel, almost like returning home.

JP and Cammy's story is such a strong way to start off this series because THEY ARE SO LOVABLE, they give off Brent and Zoey vibes (iykyk). The amount of tension and yearning in this book is enough to just light the reader's kindle on fire. First off, before even getting into the bulk of the story, TELL ME WHY this man is literally putting in ALL THE EFFORT  just to get Cammy to AKNOWKEDGE him. 2 minutes into the book, and I'm like, "and onto the bookboyfriend list he goes," and the obviously everything crashes and burns, then flash forward to chapter one we go. I will say that one of the things I loved about this book was the amount of tension that was created due to both Cammy and JP just having to rebuild their relationship. Which (of course) made the SPICE literally the best thing ever. I liked how Kenna King found the perfect balance between the characters, the overall plot in general, and the amount of spice, which, in my opinion, was just perfect. I loved every second of this book, I think these two have such an undeniable chemistry that is clearly shown throughout the book.
Honestly, Kenna King, this book is just *mwuah* chef's kiss. It was amazing, and I am so grateful to have received an early copy. I'm so excited for what this series has to offer because this book was fabulous, and it's only going to get better.

✨️Of course, Match Penalty will be out and available to all of you ice hockey romance bookish babes on May 13th and can be read on Kindle Unlimited or in paperback!!✨️

Lock in babes, it's a fun romantic ride 🤭🩷
