I loved this one! I thought the second chance trope was done so well and had so many swoony moments!

JP is charming, smooth, speaks French and completely obsessed with Cammy! The way he got her attention with the hockey pucks was so freaking cute and I loved how he slowly won her over again making the second chance totally worth it! The banter was so dang good! And the chemistry and spice?! All I am going to say is Zamboni! (IYKYK) I absolutely ate this book up and can't wait to read more from this author!

AUDIO: This was narrated by Alex Kydd and Maeve York and I loved it! These two were a perfect pair! I always enjoy listening to Alex and him speaking French?! Yes, please! Maeve is new to me but I enjoyed her a lot! Her voice was smooth and easy to listen to. Definitely recommend!

Hot take: if he’s not learning French just to confess his feelings to you in secret, is he even worth your time?

Kenna King just scored a hat trick with Match Penalty—a second chance, forbidden(ish), hockey romance that left me swooning, blushing, and Googling how to get run over by a Zamboni in a sexy way.

JP is a reformed playboy goalie with a complicated past and an even more complicated heart especially when it comes to Cammy, the GM’s assistant and his new goalie coach’s daughter. Yep. He’s traded to her team, but he’s been emotionally traded to her side for years. And now? He’s got one goal: prove she’s more important than the game. (Spoiler: he will wreck you with romantic confessions and protectiveness.)

Cammy is strong, guarded, and done falling for JP’s unintentional heartbreaks. Their chemistry is off the charts. The angst is a roaring burn. The spice…let’s just say there’s a scene that makes the Zamboni feel very NSFW. Throw in a solid team dynamic, found family vibes, and sweet platonic friendship that had me cheering, and you’ve got an absolute top-shelf sports romance.

If you love a groveling hero, a fierce heroine, and enough pining to melt the ice, Match Penalty is your next binge.

this was my first book by Kenna King, and it was such an incredible first read from her. I was hooked from the very start. I was rooting for the MCs from the start, despite their problematic past. I enjoyed the tension and buildup of their romance. JP and Cammy are literally perfect for each other. The pacing of the book was fast and so enjoyable. I had the most fun time reading it. excited to see where this series go!

This book did not disappoint! This is one of those books that you look down and realize it’s done! My first Kenna King book and will not be my last! Such a sweet second chance romance with some steamy hockey scenes! The extra fight that JP has to put in since she is a coach’s daughter just adds that extra to the story!

"I'd rather lose everything else than lose her."

NHL bad boy falls for a girl just out of his reach, finally gets her, screws it up and does everything in his power to get her back. Sure, this is a formula we have all read before, but it's a classic for a reason. Kenna King's writing is engaging, her characters are relatable and lovable, and the greater world is well-developed. Pacing was great, and the miscommunication aspect was enough to keep you invested all the way through the story. Add in the angst and pining, and it is a hard one to put down. A must-read for those who enjoy a good Hockey Romance!

Thank you Kenna King and ChasingBooks PR for my ARC of this amazing book!!

I loved this story so much. It was addictive, I was up until 3am because I just had to finish it!

Cammy and JP are complex characters, who have a LOT to overcome. Both must decide whether the way they feel about each other is enough for them to escape the past that haunts them.

This was a perfect second chance romance, and I cannot see what comes next from the new generation of the Hawkeyes!

This is the first book I've read by Kenna King but won't be the last.  I really enjoyed the second chance romance in this story, as well as her being off-limits due to her father being his coach.

The story starts out in the past with JP continuously hitting on Cammy in the cutest way, with messages written on hockey pucks. Cammy finally gives in and meets up with him at a house after one of his games, only to wake up alone in the bed with a media notification on her phone about JP and another woman, that morning!  She is crushed, leaves, and completely blocks him.

In the present, Cammy works for the same hockey team her father used to play for, the Seattle Hawkeyes.  When she finds out JP has been practicing with the team for the past two weeks, with plans to be signed by the team, she is livid.  She obviously tries to avoid him but isn't successful.  She's been asked by the team's general manager to help with an auction they're putting on for a cancer cause and JP volunteers to help her out.

When the two finally start talking, the story really took off.  It was already doing great, and I couldn't put it down, but man I loved the parts where Cammy was letting her guard down with JP.  That is until he broke her again.  Dang that guy, he just can't help it.  What's sad is both times he's abandoned her, it isn't his doing.  He left her in the bed in the past due to a reason he can't disclose to her yet.  If he does, he'll ruin his life and the life of his dear friend (who happens to be a female).  The second time… you'll just have to read to know.

Again, I haven't read other books by this author but I could tell that many characters in this book appear in previous books.  However, this didn't ruin my reading experience at all.  I was able to follow along and still thoroughly enjoy the story without leaving questions unanswered of what's happened in the past books.

I was able to read an ARC of this book and want to thank Kenna for this opportunity, as well as Chasing Books PR.  It's a great book and deserves to be on your TBR list until it's released, then quickly added to your library.

This second chance hockey romance had me go through all the emotions. A reformed bad boy is obsessed with the forbidden daughter of his coach - after he leaves her alone following their one night together… The pining was so good in this one! Cammy + JP bring all the spice and swoons. There’s also a good amount of actual hockey scenes in this one, sometimes I feel like sports romances don’t incorporate enough of the sport. I was rooting for these two the whole time and the secrets and suspense added more fun to the story as I could not put this down because I needed to know what happened!

JP and Cammy are so cute. Love me a little French Canadian.

This was a book I did not want to put down. I really enjoyed the pacing, and from the beginning, you could see JP's obsession with Cammy. You fall in love with both of those characters and the friends around them, who are family.

Overall, I loved the book, but I definitely wish we saw a bit more oomph of JP's upbringing and Cammy's issues with her family. I felt like that was really untapped. This could have held onto so much more drama, but the redemption love story was the focus, which I appreciated.

Super cute, easy hockey read, and I can't wait for the next Rookie Hawkeyes book. Do I smell Emmett??
