This was my first Kenna King book and it’s supposed to be the start of a series. I was a little confused, not by the story, but by the number of established couples present in the book so I’m guessing there must have been another series with all the same characters. I still couldn’t tell you who Aria was and how she fit in the story. There seemed like there was some backstory missing there.
Anyway on to our MC’s in this book. JP was obviously gone for Cammy and his actions proved it. He literally took three years to get her to give him the time of day. Then it gets destroyed pretty quickly. That’s when my peevishness began. Cammy never even gave JP time to explain. She waits three years, has one night and thinks he’s her forever guy then blocks him. I know, I know, it looked bad but let the guy talk to you. Then the same miscommunication starts happening in the present time. I’m more on JP’s side on this one. He was openly showing his affection and in my opinion dads of adult daughters need to take a step back.
I liked the hockey teammates. They were fun and Olson with the waitress was too cute.
And Seven Wrenly is possibly the coolest name ever.

Thanks to Chasing Books PR for the arc and this is my honest review.

HOCKEY
2ND CHANCE ROMANCE
FORCED PROXIMITY

JP is our MMC. He will do anything and everything to ensure he proves his worth... Cammy is the coach's daughter ... He plays for the team ... they have a ONS ... She was upset, felt her boundaries were crossed but i was rooting for them once she decided to give him a second chance.

✨️ Received as an ARC ✨️

Cammy and JP are too cute together. While they both want to be together, the world keeps pushing them apart for various reasons. While I can understand why JP made the decisions he did, I don't necessarily agree with some of them. Cammy, on the other hand, felt like a down to earth person who stuck with her boundaries and I highly respect that. She deserved the best, and I love that she took a stand to make what she wants known. Usually it is always the MMC following the FMC before the HEA, but I adore the switch.

Knowing Seven's story, I felt like his actions were extreme, but one could argue that he was just committed to the protective father role that he was unable to play for half of Cammy's life.

Also, can I get an Aria and Everett billionaire hockey owner romance???! Pleaseeeee

I really loved reading this story. There's perfect balance between the romance and the sport background, and the characters felt real, well rounded. If you are into hockey romance, second chance, and a twist on work romance, this is definitely for you!

This is a second chance hockey romance. I usually don’t read many books with miscommunication and third act break up but this one had me eating it up. JP gives off some golden retriever vibes, he’s the goalie for the Hawkeyes hockey team but has a bad reputation of being a play boy. Cammy, she’s the Hawkeyes gm’s assistant and coaches daughter and is the girl who got away. JP stopped at nothing to try and prove to her that he wanted her back and prove he loved her. The chemistry between these two was top notch. I just wished that Cammy would’ve stood up to her dad way sooner. The plot and character development was done very well.

If you like these then check out this book:
🏒 Coachs daughter
🥅 Workplace romance
🏒 Hockey romance
🥅 Second chance
🏒 Pining
🥅 Miscommunication
🏒 Third act breakup

Thank you to Chasing Books PR & Kenna King for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I liked the story and work family in this world! I will likely go back and read the earlier series to get some context about the other characters

Constructive review: I’m not a huge fan of the miscommunication/
hidden info trope, and unfortunately that was the driver of this story. I felt like the MCs went back and forth a few too many times without making any real progress- so the second chance and eventual reconciliation felt rushed and less believable. So if 1 step forward, 2 steps back tension is your jam, you will love this!

This was a fine palette cleanser but so frustrating to read! The fact that no one called out Seven for being the literal worst throughout the book was shocking. The writing was a bit confusing at times as well, specifically in the first few chapters as we’re learning about the San Diego incident. Also, this is marketed as a standalone but I definitely felt like I was missing a lot of info without having read Brynn and Seven’s book.
