A solid, read-in-one-day type thriller. Short, fast-paced chapters and first person POV that actually feels natural. The FMC feels like a believable teen, including her mistakes and priorities. The “reveals” you see coming from about 14 miles away, so there’s never any real tension in the mystery side of the book, and it is definitely approved for chickens who don’t like scary books — it’s PG on the scaremeter— but it’s a solid coming of age friendship story at a wistful summer camp setting.

A YA thriller set at an elite summer camp on the outskirts of a small town. A townie gets murdered on Camp Alpine Lake grounds. Sounds right up my alley! What would have been a 3.5 star read for me, was brought down to a 2 star. I don’t know if the author is anti-American or if she just felt the need to sprinkle completely unnecessary anti-American digs into the last half of the book, but that’s not my jam. She’s lucky I wanted to know what happened, or I would have DNF’d on the spot. So annoying. The only other book I’ve read from this author was a 3 star, so I don’t think I’ll move forward with any of her others ✌
