Summer camp is a place that brings magic and happiness. Camp Alpine Lake is a perfect and safe place for Goldie when there aren't so many things that are great in her life. Goldie, Ava, and Imogen have been friends since their first summer at Camp Alpine Lake (10 years ago) and are back as counselors. Best friends, sunshine, and enjoyment, seem pretty nice, but Goldie has kept a secret, and she has no chance of keeping that secret when the boy she was in love with is found dead inside the camp's boundaries.

❃ It is a perfect summer read—so many details about the camp and setting that makes me closely imagine the privileged summer camp.

❃ The mystery is not enough for me. The book's first half was slow and seemed unimpressive to me as the synopsis was about a dead body and a mystery, but the first half was about the girls with their secrets. However, the book still kept me engaged to continue, and the plot was a bit better in the second half of the book. The mystery was also predictable as it was not far from the other book I had read.

❃ I did enjoy the dual timelines (now and then) and short chapters.

❃ Character development is quite okay. I don't fancy Goldie, but I liked Ava and Imogen and their friendship. They were friends for ten years, and even though their problems came in between, they stayed close.

❃ On the whole, this story is a bit predictable, but the writing was good enough to keep me reading. It was an easy read as the conflict is not complicated, and I think it was a decent thriller for teenagers.

YA thriller set at a Vermont summer camp. A bit predictable but easy read.

I liked this thriller although what happened bummed my romance loving heart haha. I like how things wrapped up in the end and I really wasn’t sure how it was going to work out. I was surprised. The book kept me engaged from beginning to end. The camp setting is a great setting for a book like this.

As a childhood summer camper myself—and a lover of thrillers set at summer camps!—the premise of this book immediately intrigued me. I enjoyed the cast of characters, and I was eager to learn what happened in the past, and how that led future friendships betrayed and secrets exposed.

It was initially compelling but I was left a bit underwhelmed at the end. The past timeline didn’t make a lot of sense to me, in terms of the odd choices the protagonist made. While it was interesting to see how the author connected the loose threads left throughout the story, I found several a bit hard to believe. Overall, an enjoyable summer thriller with a few questionable plot points!

What I Liked
-All the camp vibes
-The financial disparity between the townies and the campers/staff
-Now and Then timelines
-The mystery

What I Didn’t Like
-How the mystery turned out
-Much of the second half
-The reason why Goldie was a social outcast at home (I find this trope to be a bit frustrating in books)

This book started out promising, but then I just got kind of bored…

So many disparate parts at the beginning that came together well, but still a little too disjointed for my liking. Still enjoyed.
